Description

Under the executive appointment of the Mayor, the Deputy Director of the Transportation Department has the authority to serve as the Department Director in his/her absence. Serves as a part of an internal team that establishes departmental goals and objectives and provides day-to-day management for bus operations.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (may perform other duties as assigned)

· Direct the day-to-day activities of the department which includes the development, implementation, and administration of policies, procedures, and standards for the efficient, safe, and effective operation of the municipal public transportation system.

· Assist with the development and monitoring of departmental goals to ensure alignment with the goals and objectives set forth by the Mayor.

· Partner with the Director to ensure effective acquisition, scheduling, dispatching, and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.

· Analyze business reports to identify opportunities for administrative (e.g. grant management, customer service, marketing, compliance) and operational (e.g. production, quality, safety) improvements.

· Manage continuous improvement initiatives that are derived from the analysis of established departmental metrics, services, practices, and policies.

· Direct, develop, and maintain a well-qualified workforce by performing sound general management principles which include, but are not limited to: training, personnel management, coaching, and performance management (i.e. corrective actions, disciplines).

· Oversee departmental projects including studies related to marketing, compliance, customer service, grant management, economic studies, and external programs of public transportation systems.

· Participate in fiscal management, budgetary planning, and staffing analysis.

· Represent the department at City Council meetings and interface with City agencies, other public officials, and key stakeholders to ensure departmental programs and activities are aligned with related City priorities in the absence of the Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications (required):

· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, or a closely related field.

· Minimum 6-10 years experience in the development, administration, and management of transportation systems.

· Minimum five (5) years experience in a leadership capacity.

Note: At the discretion of the Mayor, any of the qualifications may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Knowledge of principles and practices of community and economic development and transportation planning concepts.

· Knowledge of federal, state, and local rules and regulations governing the use and operation of a public transit system.

· Knowledge of current trends and developments in the administration and operations of transportation services and systems.

· Knowledge of grant writing marketing and customer service strategies and techniques.

· Knowledge of drug and alcohol testing regulations, the Americans with Disabilities Act and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act as they apply to public transportation services.

· Skill in project management.

· Skill in reviewing administrative and financial reports.

· Skill in analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and implementing recommendations in support of goals.

· Skill in professionalism and credibility.

· Skill in planning, assigning, supervising, and coordinating the activities of employees.

· Skill in oral and written communication including developing and delivering presentations.

· Ability to develop and administer effective goals and objectives.

· Ability to oversee large program budgets.

· Ability to promote and market the utilization of the transit system.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $83,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
