Job Description

In a team-based environment, the Production Coordinator will plan, schedule and prepare production work order details; correlate planning and scheduling with machine orders and upgrades; issue requests for new and special materials; revise and reschedule orders when necessary; collaborate with purchasing, engineering, service group, and production to coordinate schedules; and maintain files and records as required.

Essential Functions:

  • Works closely with Sales and Production Management to develop the Production Schedule and Resource Plan, based on customer orders, sales forecasts, production capacity, and inventory levels.
  • Proactively identify areas of potential supply concerns, keeping in mind capacity constraints, shortages and communicates analysis/recommendations to all parties impacted.
  • Establish scheduled ship dates on all customer orders.
  • Coordinates with the Materials teams to continually improve the integrity of the ERP system from both a data and process perspective.
  • Works closely with Procurement to ensure material plan will support developed Production Schedule and Resource Plan.
  • Analyzes production problems as they arise and works closely with Sales and Production Leadership to resolve the conflict.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions related to material planning and production scheduling.
  • Conducts Rough Cut Capacity planning prior to publishing a production schedule
  • Reviews and becomes familiar with all specifications, procedures, routings, bills of material, and other manufacturing documents.
  • Performs scheduling functions involved with managing work orders, coordinating products and materials movement through the manufacturing processes to completion and on time shipment.
  • Reviews backlog to determine materials shortages and capacity requirements to provide commitments feedback to customer.
  • Coordinates the efficient expediting of materials and work in process with purchasing, planning, production and engineering.
  • Establish planning time horizons with order entry and provide analysis and commitments on orders inside planning time fences
  • Review the relevant customer commitments and performance metrics
  • Loads the production schedule and driving MRP
  • Tracks production to schedule to ensure meeting committed delivery dates
  • Efficiently balances customer demand, capacity and inventory through the optimization and distribution of a production schedule
  • Accountable for the systems of supply chain management.
  • Leads/facilitates the business unit in establishing production capabilities for new product development. Duties include ramping up new products while ramping down old, and managing new item setup.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities to exercise influence both throughout the organization and with external parties. This position may include direct leadership.
  • Analyzes demand and supply at the component, customer order and production schedule level, determines out of balance conditions, identifies alternatives and recommends actions for approval
  • Coordinates with Sales, Engineering, Procurement, and Production to better understand lead times for master scheduled items, seeks ways to reduce internal lead times as well as lead times to the customer
  • Actively participates as a key subject matter expert in Sales, Planning, Inventory, and Operations, helping to set priorities when demand outstrips capacity

Education/Experience Preferred:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An Associate or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • 5 years of relevant experience.

Working Conditions/Physical demands:

  • Office setting
  • Able to sit at a desk/PC for long stretches and able to use standard office equipment
  • Able to walk through production areas to address material concerns and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Ability to travel to other locations for meeting, seminars, training, etc...
  • This position requires 75% sitting, 20% standing and 5% lifting up to 10 pounds
