Position Title: Sr. Mechanical Engineer
Reports To: Principal Mechanical Engineer – ME Lead
Situation:
- The Senior Mechanical Engineer plays a pivotal role in our organization, responsible for leading the mechanical design and development of aerospace and military power supply systems. The responsibility extends from what is accomplished to how it is accomplished. A successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional technical proficiency in SolidWorks, with a keen focus on thermal and structural analysis. They will exhibit strong leadership qualities, guiding and mentoring junior engineering staff, while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. Key responsibilities include designing products that exceed customer expectations, ensuring compliance with stringent quality standards, and delivering projects on time and within budget. What you’ll do:
- Develop and integrate hardware for aerospace and military tactical equipment
- Own designs from concept generation to real world use
- Use first principles physics as a basis for every decision
- Design, analyze and produce drawings in SolidWorks
- Lead design reviews (PDR/CDR), run analysis, visit vendors, define and execute hardware test plans (vibration testing)
- Build prototypes, analyze failures, and transition successful projects into production
- Support critical hardware demonstrations with customers as needed
- Travel to test sites as needed
- Support several programs at once and be the lead point of contact for mechanical questions/concern/progress
- Act as quality for incoming inspection of designed parts/cables
Required qualifications:
- US Citizenship
- 5 years of mechanical engineering design experience (CAD) in defense or aerospace industry
- Experience integrating electrical and mechanical subsystems
- Understanding of manufacturing methods (machining, sheet metal, 3D printing, etc)
- BS or higher degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with teams of other engineering disciplines
- Understanding of GD&T
- Understanding of IQ, EQ, SQ, & AQ - LinkedIn - Types of Intelligence
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in SolidWork & PDM Vault
- Competency in engineering analysis, including structural (vibe/shock) and thermal (using SolidWorks analysis tools)
- Experience with Steinberg's Fatigue Limit Equation and/or fatigue analysis for electronic components
- Experience with cable design (Test, EMI, TVAC, Deliverable)
- Experience with Dsub, MicroD, AirBorn and/or D38999 connectors
- Experience with mil spec hardware & general specs (NAS1352, NAS620, MIL-PRF-8625, MIL-HDBK-5, etc)
- Reliability Analysis (per MIL-HDBK-217)
- Basic understanding of electronics (resistors, capacitors, mosfets, FPGAs, etc)
