Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

If you are an experienced Business Manager with 15 years’ experience managing programs in a fast-paced environment, then you will be excited about the Director, Business Management opening with Iridium on our Space Development Agency (SDA) team. As Director, Business Management, you will be be responsible for implementing continuous improvements cross-functionally by setting objectives, establishing strategic plans, and effectively managing multiple priorities as it relates to a high-impact program with a multi-million-dollar impact to the company. In this role, you will focus primarily on delivering business insight so that program leadership can make decisions and formulate effective strategies. You’ll bring enthusiasm to leading and mentoring your team and peers. You will succeed in this role if you have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to work closely with customers, build relationships, and coordinate with technical teams to identify solutions that will meet our customer’s needs, budget, and expectations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Foster and develop a highly effective cross-functional team that supports the business functions and contractual requirements of the SDA program
  • Serve as a focal point for program coordination with other corporate and enterprise support functions, to include but not limited to Finance, Enterprise IT, and Program Controls & Business Operations
  • Lead the creation of monthly and quarterly financial status reports and streamline associated processes that produce forecasts used by program and executive leadership to make critical decisions
  • Develop processes and standards for collecting, tracking, analyzing, and disseminating cost and schedule data and minimize errors in compiled earned-value data
  • Responsible for scheduling risk analyses, generating comprehensive at-completion cost estimates, coordinating earned value management (EVM) analysis, and the preparation of formal reports and briefs
  • Develop, implement, and utilize assessment techniques to ensure EVM-related services and quality work products are timely and responsive to program needs
  • Perform data & trend analysis, assist Control Account Managers with their monthly activities and reporting requirements, and assist with the development of government Estimates at Completion (EAC)
  • Develop long-range financial models in collaboration with the management team and oversee program dashboard prototypes, transition, and maintenance, including but not limited to actual expenses and forecasts
  • Mentor and train your team by evaluating employees’ performance, recognizing areas for improvement, and providing reliable solutions to problems that may impact your team’s effectiveness
  • Ensure contractual requirements are met and monthly EVM and Financial deliverables are accurate and on time
  • Generate creative solutions to address evolving program challenges as they arise

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field with 15 years of relevant experience
  • Previous management experience required, with proven results managing multiple and complex projects while adhering to deadlines and budget limitations
  • EVMS (Earned Value Management System) experience in more than one process area of the EIA-748 Standard for EVMS (i.e.: organizing the work, planning and scheduling the work, authorizing and budgeting the work, cost accounting, performance analysis, and managing changes.
  • Experience with extensive data reconciliation & consolidation, as well as and understanding and interpretation of variance analysis
  • Strong Microsoft Excel (i.e. Pivot Tables) and Microsoft Office skills (i.e. PowerPoint) with equally strong organization, analytical, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Firm grasp of both accounting principles and business operations
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues clearly and confidently, and confidently recognize and adapt to different communication techniques and wide range of audiences
  • Capable of being a strong motivator and source of direction for your team and role modelling commitment to your team’s goals
  • Have a people-oriented mentality and be able to build valuable relationships and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and executive leadership
  • Able to confidently drive discussions, raise support for key ideas, and tailor your communication style to a wide range of audiences
  • Have a strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and be motivated to achieve outcomes and results
  • Be a strategic thinker who continuously looks for new and enhanced ways of doing things
  • Possess the creativity, resourcefulness, and decisiveness needed to manage risks and respond to critical situations
  • Detail oriented, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • 5 years’ experience supporting government programs
  • Experience producing budget and periodic forecasting based on historical performance; understanding of key assumptions and trends that may impact future performance
  • Experience transforming overarching business strategy into a long-range plan with annual operating and capital budgetsthrough the use of financial modeling, effectively forecasting operating and profitability performance, and setting annual targets with key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor progress
  • Understanding of multiple contract types: Cost Plus Award Fee (CPAF), Cost Plus Fixed Fee (CPFF), Cost Plus Incentive Fee (CPIF), Firm Fixed Price (FFP), Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quality (IDIQ), Time and Materials (T&M)
  • Working knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Department of Defense FAR Supplement (DFAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Accounting or Finance experience in support of government programs

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be able to travel up to 20%
  • US Citizenship required

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
