Business Overview

The Associate Director, Data Science & Analytics will be dedicated to Amazon, supporting two advanced analytics lines of business: Reputation Marketing & Insights (RMI) and Ring. The position sits within Rufus which is Amazon's dedicated agency within Initiative. The position requires advanced SQL skills, expertise in log-level data manipulation and analytics, data mining, QA skills, experience in the AWS Cloud environment, and knowledge of existing media platforms (ad servers, data aggregators, etc.). Experience with brand tracking studies or marketing research is a plus.

Amazon's RMI team is tasked with increasing positive sentiment of Amazon amongst Opinion Elites. Responsible for identifying and creating messaging and activation strategies that highlight substantive proof points to meet specific reputational KPIs. The Associate Director will partner with the Director and Group Director on the analytics team. The primary focus of this role is on advanced analytics. Advanced analytics include weekly reporting on overlap, reach and frequency, incremental reach and creative performance analyses (performance and optimization recommendations).

Amazon Ring is tasked with driving sales and new households and increasing awareness of Ring as a home security brand. The Associate Director will report into the Group Director on Ring, focusing on weekly campaign reporting, brand tracking, and data collection for Ring's bi-annual MMM model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement data collection and reporting of Reach and Frequency analytics across channels and partners
  • Effectively leverage key functionality in AWS Cloud and SQL-based technologies
  • Oversee log-level data analytics for digital channels across Ad Server, DSP, DMP, site served etc.
  • Deliver on-time, accurate weekly reporting in collaboration with the analytics, planning and investment teams
  • Identify key data questions and conduct exploratory analyses
  • Create custom data visualizations in dashboard platforms including Tableau
  • Direct team on insights generation for brand tracking results
  • Partner cross-craft to develop measurement frameworks and data engineering requirements
  • Drive efficiencies in how analytic services are delivered, through standardization and automation
  • Responsible for campaign taxonomy implementation, be the authority and final approver
  • Lead customer requirements reviews, align acceptance & testing criteria, and partner with leadership to implement viable solutions
  • Maintain Amazon and Initiative data privacy and governance policies
  • Keep on top of industry trends, and educate the team, on topics such as AdTech, audience, data governance and new techniques in data strategy and data science
  • Train and mentor a team that includes an analyst and a senior analyst

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5 years of development work in data engineering/analytics role, including automation
  • 5 years of experience in managing data in AWS Cloud environment and toolsets (Glue, Lambda, Athena, S3) and data management (SQL, Redshift, S3 Data Lake). AWS Clean Room experience a plus. Snowflake a plus.
  • Strong fundamentals in database design
  • Advanced skills in Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Experience with design and build of end-to-end ETL pipeline in cloud environment, especially AWS
  • Proven track record of setting development targets and delivering results
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a good attention to detail.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • 2 years' experience within a media agency environment and/or ad tech and/or media performance optimization
  • 5 years' experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Athena)
  • 2 years' experience with marketing research studies such as brand trackers, brand lift studies, or creative testing
  • Demonstratable experience delivering weekly reporting
  • Experience in agile project management and engineering
  • Ability to establish trust and expertise with clients and hold live discussions on data methodology, reporting and insights
  • Experience across descriptive, prescriptive, and predictive data science techniques
  • Experience with experimental design, A/B testing setup, execution and measurement
  • Experience with programming languages - SQL, Python, R
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed
  • Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities
  • AWS certifications and participations in data bootcamps is a plus
