Position Title: Plant Research Scientist I - Schnable Lab Job Group: Professional & Scientific Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree Preferred Qualifications: Experience with plant research Experience with corn phenotyping protocols Experience with basic image data retrieval and analysis Experience with basic molecular biology techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, electrophoresis, etc. Experience with corn genetic nursery tasks such as tissue collection, pollination, and harvesting Job Description: Schnable Lab with the Plant Sciences Institute at Iowa State University is hiring a self-motivated Research Scientist I to assist in supervised research with state-of-art genomic and phenotyping technologies. The Plant Sciences Institute is dedicated to enhancing Iowa State University's international prominence in the plant sciences. Primary responsibilities of this role will include: Data collection and processing for phenotyping experiments DNA/RNA extraction Plant sample collection PCR Gel electrophoresis Plant care both in greenhouse and growth chamber settings Conducting genetic experiments in the field Secondary tasks may include and are not limited to: Tracking and reporting lab supplies for daily operations Data entry Lab cleaning and instrument maintenance Assisting with field work Providing training to new personnel This is a fixed term position with an end date of 6/30/2025, with the opportunity for renewal. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
