About You:
Are you a former paraprofessional or special education teacher who is looking for an opportunity to continue making a difference in the lives of children within the public school system?
Do you see value in training family members and caregivers to overcome the myriad of challenges students and families face, enabling them to advocate for their child in varying community contexts?

How You Will Make an Impact:
You will recruit a diverse team of volunteers, including student family members and caregivers
Use a train-the-trainer style curriculum from The Arc of the United States Arc at School to train passionate volunteers who are familiar with their local special education landscape and can use the training to represent students and their families who cannot afford traditional advocates or become self-advocates.
Plan, schedule and facilitate training sessions that accommodate a variety of volunteer availability
Document student results to monitor progress in IEP goal attainment, improved perception of support among families regarding their child’s educational experience, and improved community awareness and comprehension of the educational rights and needs of students with developmental disabilities .
Utilize the knowledge you gain from volunteers and school personnel to improve the program and potentially expand into other areas of the state
Skills and Qualifications: (even if you do not meet these skills 100%, we still welcome you to apply)
2 years of experience in a teaching environment
Ability to demonstrate time management and priority-setting skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong computer literacy comprises a working knowledge of Windows or comparable operating systems. Must additionally possess working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, presentation development, e-mail, browsers, and online reporting
History of fostering a collaborative and positive relationship-building dynamic with internal staff or external parties.
