About this role

Our Senior Manager of Government Affairs will be responsible for all federal regulatory and legislative relations in support of Intersect Power’s development activities and political agenda in the US. This role will report to the Vice President of Government Affairs and will be responsible for executing and achieving federal affairs goals and ensuring the company’s federal strategy is aligned with the political reality and market opportunity. 

The Senior Manager of Government Affairs must understand how to navigate federal bureaucracy, but with a clear understanding for creating value from Government Affairs. All standard Government Affairs skills are necessary for landscape awareness. A strong candidate can demonstrate their ability to identify nimble actions and secure smart value-add details which result in outsized company benefit. Government Affairs serves to further the scale and success of Intersect Power and therefore a strong business acumen must be possessed. 

The position will interact with the CEO and the President of Intersect Power and other Executives when they engage in activities in Washington, DC. This position will work closely with the company’s development, permitting, tax and finance teams and will manage the company’s federal lobbying resources.

Location: We are a fully remote role, but this particular role will need to be located in the Washington, DC metro area or surroundings.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Support in defining and implementing the company's federal affairs objectives
  • Contribute to advocacy efforts with legislative and executive branches
  • Project management of SME engagement in rulemaking processes with relevant agencies
  • Collect and disseminate information about relevant actions and discussions in Washington DC that align with the company's federal affairs goals
  • Assist in coordinating engagement and relationship building with the State Policy Lead
  • Assist in planning and budget management, and coordinate with external consultants and lobbyists to ensure project timelines and objectives are met
  • Organize and manage input to the company’s PAC and assist in selection of PAC targets 
  • Choreograph the most efficient and effective use of visits by the CEO and other executives to Washington, DC
  • Assist in executing key policy related events
  • Support internal communication on federal policy issues and related news, keeping the company informed and aligned
  • Undertake various projects and duties to contribute to the company's business objectives, showcasing versatility and a keen understanding of federal energy policy
Qualifications and Skills
  • 4 years of relevant experience interacting with federal energy policy issues with a strong interest in the sector’s dynamics
  • Knowledge of how the power sector operates and the incentives provided by the Inflation Reduction Act for the clean power transition
  • Familiarity with the landscape of political and regulatory figures in Washington, DC relevant to the power sector, with a focus on policy and regulation
  • Proven ability in project management, showcasing the ability to manage diverse tasks efficiently
  • Experience in fostering collaboration within internal teams and external coalitions contributing to consensus building
  • Capable of engaging with trade associations and understanding member dynamics, with an emphasis on organizational skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking capabilities, with a knack for simplifying complex issues and providing actionable recommendations
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including learning and using remote collaboration tools and platforms
  • Highly organized, detail-focused, and committed to high-quality work
  • Strong ethical standards and discretion, with sound judgment in decision-making

Physical and Sensory Requirements
  • Mostly sedentary work; using standard office equipment including: a computer, keyboard, and telephone. 
  • Position is part of a remote team, with regular electronic and video communication
  • Position requires some travel for work to visit project site locations, and company-wide meetups 4 times during each calendar year.

  • Salary: USD$150,000 - USD$160,000 or base salary with 20-25% annual target bonus
