Job Description

Job Overview:
The Career Development Coordinator plays a crucial role in IRC’s Career Development Programs, aiming to empower refugee clients to advance beyond entry-level positions and secure employment in their chosen professional fields. This role involves assisting in staff development, ensuring data quality and program outcome delivery, managing volunteers and mentors, supervising career readiness training, and fostering relationships with local employers.

Supervision:

  • Manage a network of volunteers and mentors, helping them fulfill their roles effectively.
  • Assist in training and developing team members across the department, providing guidance and support.

Reporting and Data Quality:

  • Collaborate with the Workforce Development Manager and Career Development Supervisor to review and generate program reports.
  • Ensure the quality of program data and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist in tracking and communicating progress in key outcome indicators, such as enrollments, training enrollments, training completion, and career placements.
  • Represent career development programs within the IRC network, in conferences, working groups, communities of practice calls, sharing the creation of client success stories, and other opportunities when available.
  • Keep track of spending across multiple program areas while adhering to the program budget throughout the project duration.

Volunteer and Mentor Supervision:

  • Recruit, onboard, and train volunteers and mentors with industry-recognized expertise in key sectors, including healthcare, education, IT, civil engineering, transportation, and finance.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to volunteers and mentors to ensure they contribute effectively to the program's success.
  • Coordinate with the Community Engagement Team to report accurate mentor/volunteer/intern hours.

Career Readiness Training Coordination:

  • Lead career readiness training courses both virtually and in-person on resume building, interview preparation, and networking
  • Coordinate with training providers, employers, and professional mentors to co-facilitate training sessions, workshops, and seminars
  • Coordinate with Senior Career Development Specialist on scheduling, tracking, and facilitating classes
  • Coordinate with Career Development Specialist team on client progress and course completion

Employer Networking:

  • Collaborate closely with the Workforce Job Developer to establish and maintain strong relationships with employers.
  • Ensure that employers actively engage in hiring career development clients and participating in client training opportunities.
  • Promote the program and its clients to local employers, fostering a mutually beneficial relationship.
  • Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engages as a member of the team.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to:Workforce Development Manager

Position directly supervises: Interns and Volunteers Internal and/or external contacts: Coordinates regularly with Sacramento Employment team and local partners

Job Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or 4 years’ relevant experience

Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years’ experience working in employment and workforce programs preferred
  • 1-3 years’ experience with client counseling, case management, or coaching strongly preferred
  • 1-3 years’ experience working in or managing grant funded programs

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Multi-cultural experience and demonstrated ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation creation
  • Proven ability to take initiative, creatively problem solve and lead with versatility in a fast-paced work environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Experience using data and fiscal tracking systems strongly preferred
  • Grant writing skills a plus
  • Strong understanding of the job market in professional sectors in Sacramento
  • Flexible availability necessary

Language Skills:Proficiency in a refugee language such as Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Arabic, Russian, or Ukrainian.

Working Environment:Standard office environment including regular travel to employer sites.
