InterAct is Hiring a Children's Case Manager/ Counselor Near Raleigh, NC

Description

Each member of InterAct’s staff fulfills an important role in furthering InterAct’s mission of providing safety, support, and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence and the entire community – and saving lives, re-building lives, and securing safer futures. 

The Children’s Case Manager/Counselor will provide advocacy, support and social instruction to children utilizing services with InterAct.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with parents and children to provide educational information on domestic violence through crisis counseling, groups, and one-on-one sessions. 
  • Provide case management, referral information, and serve as a liaison between InterAct and other community organizations/professionals on behalf of clients as needed.
  • Complete Child Trauma Screens with children who are utilizing InterAct’s services.
  • Coordinates with Wake County School system to advocate for children’s education.
  • Demonstrates and teaches non-violent parenting techniques and instructs on the effects of domestic violence on children.
  • Develop and encourage age-appropriate learning and socialization to ensure children learn basic skills and concepts, such as communication, manners, sharing, etc.
  • Maintain a safe environment by monitoring children for health, behavioral, and emotional issues and reporting concerns to staff and parents.
  • Ensure children are learning positive behaviors and provide guidance using approved processes, as needed.
  • Maintain records relating to childcare and ensure all children have a safety plan.
  • Work with parents to help children progress towards educational and behavioral goals.
  • Coordinates with the local YMCA for Camp High Hopes Summer Program and will assist with implementing the Camp Hope Program.
  • Assists with coordinating and facilitating Children’s Support Group
  • Assists in the supervision and training of Child Advocate Volunteers.
  • Attends weekly supervision with Director of Shelter Programming to review and process cases.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all Children’s Services statistics are collected.
  • Perform other duties as assigned for program operation.

Camp HOPE and Pathways

  • Lead the development of resources for Camp HOPE and Pathways.
  • Coordinate the recruitment of participants and volunteer counselors.
  • Plan and facilitate all Camp HOPE and Pathways events and activities, including an annual week-long camp and monthly Pathways outings.
  • Act as head counselor in all Camp HOPE and Pathways activities.
  • Supervise all volunteer counselors in their day-to-day tasks.
  • Prepare achievable goals for Camp HOPE and Pathways and track all statistical data.
  • Participate in monthly Camp HOPE and Pathways calls with the Alliance for Hope.

Skills/Qualifications:

Strong knowledge and understanding of services available to children residing in shelter. Strong case management skills. Ability to network well with community professionals. Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties. Ability to be empathic and non-judgmental. Ability to handle crisis situations while remaining calm and diplomatic. Ability to work as part of a team, as well as ability to handle crises individually with quality decision-making skills. Ability to work within a complex, fast-paced and rapidly changing work environment. Ability to effectively solve problems and achieve conflict resolution. Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals. Ability to demonstrate mature and professional attitude combined with a compassionate nature. Ability to model positive discipline techniques and patience with children. Knowledge of basic computer skills. 

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related human services field and three (3) years of experience working with survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault or Five (5) years of equivalent experience. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, some holidays, and on-call, as assigned. Familiarity with community-based services in Wake County preferred.

Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Candidates must pass a background check satisfactory to InterAct’s standards and adherence to InterAct’s COVID requirements. Valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation and a clean driving history.
