Essential Job Functions:
• Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Housekeeping/Laundry Department,
its programs and activities.
• Assist the housekeeping/laundry staff in the development and use of departmental policies,
procedures, equipment, supplies, etc.
• Make reports/recommendations to the Administrator as necessary concerning the operation of
the Department.
• Inspect storage rooms, utility/janitorial closets, etc., for upkeep and supply control.
• Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.
• Develop a plan of correction for deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a copy of
such to the administrator.
• Perform administrative duties such as completing necessary forms, reports, evaluations, studies,
etc.
• Determine departmental staffing requirements necessary to meet the department's needs.
• Assist in the recruitment and selection of departmental personnel.
• Review competence of departmental personnel and make necessary corrections as required or
that may become necessary.
• Counsel/discipline personnel as requested or as necessary.
• Make rounds to assure staff are performing duties & to assure that the department meets the
needs of the facility.
• Conduct departmental performance evaluations in accordance with the facility's policies and
procedures.
• Maintain relationships with other supervisors & coordinate to assure services are performed
without interruption.
Qualifications:
• Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma.
• Training in environmental control practices and procedures preferred, but not required.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
• Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors,
government agencies/personnel and the general public.
• Must be knowledgeable of housekeeping/laundry practices and procedures & the laws,
regulations and guidelines governing them in the long-term care facility.
• Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other
personnel.
• Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, & be willing to handle residents
based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
