Essential Job Functions:

Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Housekeeping/Laundry Department, its programs and activities.

Assist the housekeeping/laundry staff in the development and use of departmental policies, procedures, equipment, supplies, etc.

Make reports/recommendations to the Administrator as necessary concerning the operation of the Department.

Inspect storage rooms, utility/janitorial closets, etc., for upkeep and supply control.

Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.

Develop a plan of correction for deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a copy of such to the administrator.

Perform administrative duties such as completing necessary forms, reports, evaluations, studies, etc.

Determine departmental staffing requirements necessary to meet the department's needs.

Assist in the recruitment and selection of departmental personnel.

Review competence of departmental personnel and make necessary corrections as required or that may become necessary.

Counsel/discipline personnel as requested or as necessary.

Make rounds to assure staff are performing duties & to assure that the department meets the needs of the facility.

Conduct departmental performance evaluations in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures.

Maintain relationships with other supervisors & coordinate to assure services are performed without interruption.

Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma.

Training in environmental control practices and procedures preferred, but not required.

Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

Must be knowledgeable of housekeeping/laundry practices and procedures & the laws, regulations and guidelines governing them in the long-term care facility.

Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.

Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, & be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
