Controls Engineer
A successful manufacturing company is in need of a qualified Electrical Controls Engineer to be responsible for all aspects of electrical, automation, and control systems, including the design, development, and production of electrical control equipment and PLC/HMI software for electro-mechanical equipment.
Responsibilities:
  • Provides electrical design, development, and programming based on approved P&ID (Piping & Instrumentation Diagram) conferring with Team members and management, as necessary. May also require exercising independent judgment.
  • Responsible for the installation and technical support of PLC-based hardware and software.
  • Performs pre-approved engineering design evaluations and works to complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints.
  • Design and develop electrical panels including machinery controls.
  • Integrate components into the final design.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the design and change if necessary.
  • Estimate cost, reliability, and safety factors.
  • Use computers extensively to produce and analyze designs.
  • Generate specifications for components.
  • Supports the electrical designer and purchasing in assembling bid/approval drawing packages.
  • May assist in the supervision/training of engineers during the development stage.
  • Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
  • Manage projects as an electrical lead including specification review, sequence of operation preparation, and control panel hardware design.
Requirements:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience in a team-based environment.
  • Experience with process controls, motor controls, instrumentation, automation principles, and industrial networking.
  • Familiarity with Rockwell Studio 5000 PLC and FactoryTalk View Studio HMI programming is required.
  • Modicon-Schneider, DeltaV/Emerson, and Siemens programming would be a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests.
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures utilized in machine control systems.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills using continuous improvement techniques.
  • On-site customer support/start-up.
  • Must be willing to travel to customer locations in the U.S. and Canada.
