Institute for Public Health Innovation is Hiring a Community Health Worker Near Fairfax, VA

The Institute for Public Health Innovation (IPHI) is seeking to hire, train, and deploy a team of Community Health Workers across Fairfax County, Virginia who will work as an integrated part of a Health Services Team at a local health department. 

IPHI is looking for CHWs to work directly with individual clients identified by a local health department and/or Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) by linking them with community resources to aid in the adoption of healthy behaviors. Under the direction of Public Health Nurses (PHNIII) and Social Services Specialists (SSSII/III), the CHW will assist with increasing health literacy and self-efficacy. This role establishes trusting relationships with clients, caregivers, and families while providing support and encouragement in the client’s home, community, and clinic settings. This role collaborates with the health care team, providers, and community partners to support Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or GED issued by state department of education.
  • Two years of work related to health and human services or relevant community volunteer experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required and ability to interact professionally and gain trust with culturally diverse individuals during a time of crisis and distress.
  • Ability to show empathy to distressed individuals.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (the communities served are 85% Spanish speaking only).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with or accessing community resources and human services for local health departments.
  • Maternal child health experience a plus.

Necessary Special Requirements

Candidates must be able to work onsite locally and have ready access to high-speed internet to be able to work remotely.

This role requires field work, and work in environments where working in a face-to-face interaction with clients occurs, including home visits.

Candidates must be proficient in the use of mobile phones and computer applications.

Regular access to a vehicle for travel between worksites and communities is needed.

Work Schedule

Current schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Shift work may require some hours during evenings and weekends.

Compensation

This is designated a temporary position and is contingent upon the availability of funding. This is a non-exempt position at an hourly rate of $27.15 per hour. IPHI offers a flexible and collegial work environment and competitive benefits package, including vacation and health leave, health/dental/vision insurance, disability and life insurances, and retirement 403 (b) plan and contributions, among other benefits.
