Director of Academic ResearchJob Summary:The Director of Academic Research will be responsible for leading a team of analysts to track organizational impact and inform organizational strategy. This data informs the design of scholarly convenings and the planning of our grantmaking program. Reporting to the Senior Director of Academic Research, this role involves measuring the academic, media, and policy impact of scholars and research supported by IHS. This position will oversee the creation of reports and analyses for internal use and for collaboration with other nonprofit organizations. In addition to external stakeholders, this individual will partner with and provide service for our Programs, Solution Coalitions, Development, Communications and Marketing, and Leadership teams. Supervisory Responsibilities:2-4 direct reports. Duties/Responsibilities:Develop and implement strategies for analyzing bibliometric data to support the Institute's objectives.Lead the team in the measurement of impact from supported scholars and academic research in academic, media, and policy spheres.Oversee the creation of detailed reports and analysis for internal and external partners.Collaborate with other departments to align analysis work with broader organizational goals.Ensure the team's findings are communicated effectively to inform decision-making within the Institute and among partners.Provide editorial leadership and support of the team's internal products.Supervise and partner with direct reports to set clear goals, objectives, and expectations that align with the team and organizational strategy.Provide regular feedback and coaching that supports high performance and employee growth. Required Skills/Qualifications:Demonstrated experience on an analysis team, preferably in a research, grantmaking, or academic setting.Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.Ability and desire to manage, coach, and develop a team of research analysts.Strong understanding of the academy, academic research, and philanthropic non-profits.Experience with Salesforce CRM.Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills.Strong communication abilities and customer service skills matched by the capacity to translate findings into actionable insights.Strong willingness to learn and grow.Knowledge of and appreciation for the mission and values of the Institute for Humane Studies.Experience with statistics a plus.
