Position : Full-Time Lecturer (Music History)

Effective Date : August 19, 2024 (1-Year Appointment -Academic Year 2024-2025 / 2-Semesters, 1 to 3-AY Appointment(s), Renewable)

Salary Range : The Lecturer (Academic Year -Range 4) classification salary is $74,280 to $158,064 per academic year (paid as 12 monthly payments).

The anticipated hiring range is $76,800 to $81,600 per year. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Bob Cole Conservatory of Music

The Bob Cole Conservatory of Music (BCCM) seeks an innovative colleague in Music History. The Music History area works closely with the performance and education faculty to ensure that all students have a balanced education that provides the strongest possible foundation for all musical endeavors.

The Music History area is commited to practices of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Required Qualifications :

Ph.D. in Musicology or Ethnomusicology or a record of substantial creative / professional achievement in these fields. Degree at time of application or official notification of the completion of the degree by August 1, 2024.

Substantial creative / professional achievement as demonstrated by portfolio of work and C.V.

  • Demonstrated expertise in musical multimedia, particularly film, video game, or VR / AR music
  • Demonstrated record of teaching excellence at the college level
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Demonstrated commitment to innovation in music history pedagogy
  • Demonstrated potential or experience to mentor graduate student research
  • Record of scholarly writing in music
  • Demonstrated success in working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body

Duties :

  • Teach General Education course(s) on Music and Film Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and / or any combination thereof.
  • Teach all or part of a two-semester survey of Western art music for majors
  • Teach graduate seminars for Master of Music students
  • Oversee undergraduate theses and Master of Music project reports
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curricular reforms in music history
  • Attend professional conferences to keep current with the discipline
  • Maintain active involvement in ongoing mentoring for student success
  • Particpate in department, college, and or university service
