Principal Job Description

Innovation Montessori Ocoee (IMO) is a dynamic and thriving public Montessori charter school situated in Ocoee, just outside of Orlando, Florida. We are dedicated to providing a unique and enriching educational experience rooted in the Montessori philosophy. Our school serves a diverse community and is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Principal to lead our secondary program during the 2024-2025 school year. The secondary program at IMO will accommodate approximately 400 Middle and High School students. As a member of our leadership team, the principal will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational direction and success of our secondary program.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

At Innovation Montessori, Inc., the principal's primary job is to create a collaborative community for adults and adolescents which facilitates academic and social emotional learning environments. This includes having an intuitive and working understanding of the Montessori model for adolescent learners. This will include understanding human development, acumen for building on our innovative incubator, commitment to restorative practices-peace education, sensitive to this period in history and dedication to meeting the needs of all students. The principal will spend more than half of their time on instructional leadership in leading and developing teachers to improve their craft. Innovation Montessori, Inc has a robust identification of who we are and will be looking for candidates that lean into those principles and aim to bring their best selves to an organization that pushes the limits of what adolescents and adults can make happen in preparing themselves for their next ventures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership:

  • Implementing, evaluating, and reporting to the Board of Directors the school’s goals and objectives reflecting organizational and state goals.
  • Maintain a positive school/community climate and a safe and healthy environment.
  • Manifests a professional code of ethics and values.
  • Communicates and interacts effectively with all stakeholders in the community.

Instructional:

  • Planning, implementing, and evaluating the school instructional program based on student needs and within state guidelines.
  • Review teacher lesson plans and instruction to ensure they match with the Sunshine State Standards and Montessori Standards

Administrative:

  • Planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating all other programs, i.e. Athletics, Extracurricular, Co-Curricular.
  • Determining staffing needs including selection, supervision, staff development and evaluation of all school personnel.
  • Recommend to the Executive Director the appointment or dismissal of all employees of the school.
  • Ensuring the school is operating within the set budget.
  • Overseeing the proper record keeping processes, and inventory control of all school resources.
  • Maintain records such as student test scores, attendance records, overseeing IEPs, and all other reports as needed for efficient operation of the school and compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
  • Recruit students and faculty for the school as needed.
  • Assure that all academic components of the school’s charter are being met.
  • Enforce the Policies and Procedures of the organization as set by the Board of Directors and Executive Director.
  • Develops and implements school rules and regulations in keeping with the Policies and Procedures.
  • Attends and participates in meetings of the Board and its committees as requested.
  • Ensure the Executive Director is informed of the school's operations and any problems.
  • Is familiar with Charter School Laws and Florida Statutes and attends other duties as assigned by or in the absence of the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • Florida certification as either School Principal or Educational Leadership required within the first two years of employment.
  • Five (5) years of related professional experience required (preferably in Montessori Education).
  • Master’s or Specialist’s Degree in Educational Leadership (or current enrollment in an accredited Educational Leadership degree program).

Physical Requirements/Activity:

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
  • The position requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, lift (up to 20 pounds), finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing acuity, and visual acuity.
  • Indoor and Outdoor: the principal is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary amounts are set annually by the Board of Directors.
  • Competitive performance-based compensation and benefits package in alignment with Florida statute.
  • 10 paid holidays
  • 12 PTO Days
  • 20 Paid non-workdays

Compensation: $91,000-$115,576. Placement based on years of administrative work experience on 256-day schedule. Specifics around benefits package available on request for candidates.
