ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:The Inner City Education Foundation, known as ICEF Public Schools, is a nonprofit charter school network serving communities in the South Los Angeles area for 25 years. ICEF Public Schools operates seven high-quality, tuition-free, public charter elementary, middle, and high schools serving over 2,000 scholars from TK-12th grade.ICEF's mission is to educate and empower courageous leaders to pursue their full potential in college, career, and life by providing a community that honors each student's unique identity, fosters academic excellence, nurtures healthy minds, and inspires critical thinkers.POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of CEO, the Managing Director of Student Services plans, organizes and directs Student Services programs and team. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven, entrepreneurial individual to solidify ICEF’s vision for student services, following robust strategic planning process (resulting in a new mission statement which emphasizes the community schools model and integration between academics and student services). This position has multiple direct reports which he/she/they will be responsible for coaching, mentoring, supporting, and evaluating, as well as overseeing the process to hire and onboard any replacements. Departments under this leader may include but are not limited to special education, mental health and wellness, community schools, college & career success, expanded learning, multi-tiered systems of support etc.This position is a senior leader at ICEF, and will work closely with its senior leadership team to build culture and collaborate with all other departments within ICEF. On-going student services program analysis, which includes but is not limited to, looking at sustainability and scalability of current programs, grants, budgets, ROI, and staffing structures.
Collaborate closely with the VP of Strategy and Chief Academic Officer to ensure full integration and implementation of student services across ICEF network; fostering inclusive, equitable, and diverse opportunities for all
Navigate student services department funding structures, research alternatives ways to fund, and support with sustainability process
Lead each department in defining team wildly important goals (WIGs), individual role WIG, and highest leverage actions that will yield the highest impact on student achievement and outcomes while ensuring alignment to strategic plan
Utilize a KPI tracker, scoreboard, and work with teams to develop individual playbooks and 6-week action plans towards overall WIGs
In collaboration with VP of Strategy, research (internally at ICEF as well as identify best practices at other school networks), collect feedback, and analyze data regarding all student services programs and offerings, fidelity of implementation across schools, and make recommendations for future implications and overall direction of the department
Assist in the planning, development, implementation and maintenance of special education and Student Services related operational policies and regulations and assure compliance with applicable district rules and policies, and State and Federal laws, IDEA, codes and regulations.
Support department leads in continuing to learn how to develop as supervisors and provide guidance and support with coaching, supervision, and management best practices
Work closely with schools, principals, and CAO to support schools in building their capacity and knowledge of integrated student services
Utilize Intranet to ensure consistency of systems, procedures and policies that impact students
JOB REQUIREMENTS: QualificationsExperience and Demonstrated Skills
Bachelor’s degree or commensurate work experience (required)
At least 2 years engaging in student services experience in an urban school setting, serving low income and minority students and strong background in direct management of teams
Proven track record as a leader and collaborator; direct management experience required – you must be comfortable coaching team members, investing in their professional growth, and holding them accountable to positive results for students
Experience working with adult learners, coaching teachers, and delivering professional development
An understanding of the California Common Core Standards, the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, and researched-based best practices in curriculum design and instruction (experience with curriculum development preferred)
Experience working in and with the communities we serve at ICEF
Experience executing multiple high-priority projects, producing high-quality deliverables on time
Able to develop, document, and implement internal systems and processes to increase effectiveness of the entire team and to enable collaboration
Bilingual English and Spanish not required, but would be ideal

WORKING ENVIRONMENTFrequent local travel and occasional out-of-town may be required for trainings, seminars, or workshops. This position will work in a shared office space and will be required to visit the school sites on a frequent basis. The following physical demands may be requested: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.EDUCATIONTargeted job-related education that meets the organization’s prerequisite requirements. Job related experience within a specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
BA Required. Advanced degree preferred.
California Clear Pupil Personnel Services Credential (preferred) or other certification/credential in the education/mental health field.
No less than three years of experience in a responsible administrative or supervisory position, including student and educational management or similar fields.
