Analytical Chemist Intern

How you will impact Ingevity:

As an Analytical Chemist Intern, you will provide technical assistance for Ingevity's Performance Chemicals analytical chemistry group in North Charleston, SC. In this role, you will work in a lab environment assisting with sample preparation and analysis for current and in-development products to support testing needs across multiple platforms and business groups. You'll also play a key part in supporting the development and implementation of new analysis methods with a heavy emphasis placed on safety, reproducibility of procedures and results, and troubleshooting. By the end of this internship, our mission is to have positively impacted your curriculum, professional development, and career goals in technical areas relevant to your major.

This position will be in person and based at the Ingevity Technical Center in North Charleston, SC. The internship will be in the Summer of 2024 and is expected to require approximately 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday between 8:00AM and 4:00PM Eastern Time. Summer internships typically last approximately 10-12 weeks.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Support safety activities in the lab
  • Provide technical assistance with sample preparation, testing, and data interpretation for current and new products
  • Assist withdevelopment of test methods and/or method validation procedures
  • Provide technical support assistance for and serve as liaison between production, sales, and technical groups

What you need to succeed:

  • Currently pursuing BS or MS degree in Chemistry
  • Completed Analytical Chemistry lecture and laboratory courses with a passing score (at Univ. South Carolina, course IDs: CHEM 322 and CHEM 322L)
    • Suggested completion of Instrumental Analysis course with a passing score (at Univ. South Carolina, course ID: CHEM 621)
  • Knowledge of chemistry, analytical chemistry, and statistical methods
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to organize workload with attention to detail
  • Capable of developing positive working relationships in a cross-functional team environment
  • Ability to travel (<10%)

This position will be in-person (not remote) and is not eligible for relocation or housing assistance. The successful candidate must have a reliable source of transportation throughout the internship.
