ICE of Carolinas, PLLC is actively seeking a self-motivated civil engineering student to join our Structural Design Team in the Raleigh, NC office to support various transportation projects with a strong emphasis on bridge design. We are looking for candidates pursuing a degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural design/bridge design.

As a Bridge Design Intern, you will have the opportunity to learn how to analyze and design structural components for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation-related structures. You will work with AASHTO and other applicable design specifications, as well as state and local design requirements. Throughout the internship, you will gain knowledge in seismic design, load ratings, QA/QC processes, review and approval of construction submittals, and effective communication with clients and subcontractors.

As an intern, you will be assigned to a team led by a dedicated Professional Engineer (PE) and supported by several Engineering Interns-in-Training (EITs) who will mentor and train you throughout your internship.
Job Duties:
•Assist the lead engineer in maintaining organized documentation/archives of design files, drawings, and construction submittals.
•Collaborate with engineers to develop effective designs, details, drawings, and specifications for transportation structures such as pre-stressed concrete girder bridges, pre-stressed concrete hollow-cored slab bridges, steel plate girder bridges, reinforced concrete flat slab bridges, retaining walls, noise walls, box culverts, and more.
•Provide internal quality control for construction drawings, design calculations, and specifications, ensuring technical accuracy, conformance to project requirements, and overall constructability.

Education Requirements:
•Must be pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
•Preference will be given to junior or senior students.
•Desired GPA of 3.0 or better.
•Must possess a valid Driver's License with a safe driving record.

Duration and Compensation: This internship is a 14–16-week program, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with industry standards.
