Open to NYS employees with one year or more of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Services 4 (G25), and with five years or more of experience with both the IBM Z Series Mainframe and IWS (IBM Workload Scheduler)
Duties Description
Under the direction of a Manager of Information Technology Services 2 (Operations), SG-29, within the Chief Technology Office/Data Center Services, the Project Coordinator will manage a Production Control Team responsible for providing 24 X7 service to our customer agencies (DOL, DOT, DTF, DOCCS, DOS & others) in an IBM Mainframe and open systems environment

- Ensure system availability and workflow for all scheduled customer activities.
- Operate and maintains Production Control scheduling packages including:
- OpCon: Enterprise Job Scheduling Tool
- JCL (IBM Job Control Language)
- IWS (IBM Workload Scheduler)
- TSO (Time Share Option)
- TIDAL (Open System Scheduling Software)
- SDSF (Spool Display and Search Facility)
- Develop, implement, and monitor the operations of the computer-based processing schedules for customer agencies.
- Identifies training needs for staff and trains staff on a continual basis.
- Maintain, update, and create documentation for Production Control.
- Maintain system incident reports for compilation of daily reports and future reference.
- Contact customer agency programming staff for documentation updates when needed.
- Maintain communication with programming staff, management, vendors and co-workers.
- Maintain an awareness of Data Center environmental requirements.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by high-level managers as necessary for the efficient operation of the Production Control Unit.
- Control and monitor the operation of the computer system through the main console.
- Respond to system problems and console messages.
- Perform the full range of manager responsibilities.
- Manage the assessment of the current inventory of JCL, IWS, TSO, TIDAL & SDFS jobs for 11 LPARs / agencies.
- Manage the priority, planning & scheduling of the transformation of these job to OpCon, including test plans and rollback plans.
- Ensure all migration pre-work (tickets, firewall rules, database changes, server changes etc) are managed prior to each transformation event.
- Communicate schedule and plan with all impacted staff from ITS and Agency Program and BAS (Business Application Services) staff, and schedule all involved personnel well ahead of each transformation event.
- Manage testing of transformed OpCon schedules with Agency Program and BAS (Business Application Services) IT staff.
- Sign off on each transformation event and communicate OpCon schedules migrated into Production for all impacted stakeholders.
Additional Comments
Fingerprinting and background check are required for employment with ITS.
