Position Description:The Office of the General Counsel within the Department of Economic Security is seeking a contract attorney. The contract attorney will be under the supervision of the General Counsel & Chief Governance Officer and Senior Associate General Counsel within the Office of the General Counsel. The successful candidate will be highly skilled in comprehensive legal research and legal document preparation. Job duties include, but are not limited to, assignment of comprehensive legal research projects as directed by the Office of the General Counsel, reading and interpreting statutes, case law, rules and regulations, assisting in coordination all stages of litigation, assisting with drafting Department Orders and Director's Instruction, and other duties as assigned.
Skills Required:
The Office of the General Counsel is seeking an attorney who is skilled at: (1) reading and interpreting statutes, case law, rules, and regulations; (2) conducting comprehensive legal research utilizing Westlaw and federal government websites; (3) drafting comprehensive legal documents; (4) time management; (5) use of Microsoft Word and Excel; (6) effective communication, both written and verbal; and (7) attention to detail.
Skills Preferred:
The Office of the General Counsel is seeking an attorney who is preferably skilled in or possesses foundational knowledge of: (1) state and federal laws, rules, regulations, policy, and sub-regulatory guidance related to the Department's provision of health and human services, managed care, basic subsistence benefits, and employment practices; (2) understanding of legislative, judicial and executive branches of state and federal government; (3) knowledge of all phases of state and federal judicial and administrative proceedings and the litigation process; (4) use of Google Office Suite including Gmail, Google documents and sheets, and Google Drive; (5) ability to work independently; (6) project management; and (7) creative problem solving.
Experience Required:
Minimum of 3 years' experience as a licensed attorney, including experience in conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and conducting complex legal analysis.
Education Required:
Bachelor's Degree, Juris Doctorate Degree, and an active license to practice law in the State of Arizona and have a membership in good standing.
