Position Summary:
The primary responsibilities of the Sales Associate position are to maintain excellent and helpful customer service, generate sales, merchandise product, operate cash register and support the store management team.
Requirements:

• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays to meet the needs of the business
• Knowledge of retail or personal computer systems
• Adherence to our Attendance policy in all areas with minimal absences
• Preferred: Previous experience in retail sales, including as cashier

Major responsibilities for this position include:
Delivers on the Ace Helpful Pledge by ensuring each customer receives outstanding and helpful service, following all Ace Hardware standards including greeting, smiling, appropriate eye contact, upbeat, polite, friendly voice. Moves quickly and efficiently. Listens and pays attention to customers. Thanks every customer.

Follow all outlined Ace Hardware standards, work rules, policies, checklists, processes and procedure including all rules outlined in Ace Hardware Associate Handbook as well as signs and memos posted in store.

Signs all red binder memos to indicate he/she has read the memo.

Displays helpful, appropriate, pleasant and cooperative demeanor at all times with customers, co-workers and supervisors.

Professional demeanor is expected at all times at work at Ace Hardware. In our opinion, there are items not appropriate to discuss at work. Those items include, but are not limited to: One’s personal health, health of family members, thoughts on government’s handling of COVID pandemic, thoughts on wearing masks or not, politics, religion, sexual topics, alcohol/drugs, to name a few. Talking about these things at work has the effect of making others, customers, co-workers and supervisors potentially uncomfortable or even offended.

Displays ethics, civility and common sense inside and outside of the workplace.

Displays attitude of support for company, management team and fellow associates.

Accepts feedback and takes corrective action in order to willingly to improve skills in all areas over time.

Knowledgeable in all areas of store product including paint, tools, electrical, plumbing, lawn and garden as well as general basic hardware.

Proficient at executing store services to include categories such as special orders, mixing paint, cutting glass, cutting pipe, chain and keys for customers. Not all employees will be mixing paint, cutting glass, pipe or chain.

Assists customers in locating merchandise in store, on acehardware.com and processes special orders.

Suggests items helpful to customer projects.

Is able to assist customers on floor without routinely needing to ask other associates for assistance in helping customers.

Displays complete understanding of promotions and advertisements and upholds merchandising standards.

Takes care of store consistently by fronting, cleaning, correcting misplacements, notifying manager of concerns.

Answers phone according to policy and provides excellent and helpful phone service to callers.

Oral and written communication skills are clear, concise and appropriate to deliver Ace Hardware customer service standards with customers, owners and fellow associates.

Performs cash register sales transactions quickly and accurately in accordance with established cash control procedures and customer service guidelines.
*Ask for/promotes Ace Rewards card/program consistently.
*Collect payment (cash, credit card, house accounts) from customers
*Provides correct change
* Register mistakes, item corrections, no sales are at a minimal level
* Gives receipt to every customer
*Processes refunds correctly
* Changes cash register receipt tape, stocks and maintains neat register area
*Makes frequent deposits to safe
*Cash register drawer only opened for legitimate purpose
*Accounts for money each shift by following full register accountability procedures
* Sincerely says, “Thank you!” “Have a good day!” or similar to every customer

Follows all security and safety procedures; reports any concerns to management.

Assists in receiving shipments/delivery and stocking shelves.

Maintains store cleanliness standards by performing cleaning duties through out the store as needed and/or assigned. Empties garbage in store and takes to dumpster as necessary.

Assists in training and development of new hires as directed and as assigned.

Is productive throughout shift and circulates throughout store, continually (when not assigned to cash register); takes initiative.

Understands importance of deterring shoplifting by greeting customers, asking if they need assistance and walking throughout the store on a routine basis; reports suspicious activity to manager.

Adheres to confidentiality policy and does not provide information on owners/employees including schedules or telephone numbers, store operations, sales to anyone not employed at Ace Hardware.

Completes paperwork duties.

Attendance and appropriate participation in scheduled meetings.

Performs other tasks as assigned by store management

Completes Ace Hardware computer training courses, as assigned.

Must be honest in his/her dealings with any agent of the company; lies are grounds for discipline including termination of employment at Ace Hardware of Butler.

Physical Requirements:
• Must be physically able to work in any area of the retail operation when needed.
• Face covering (mask that covers nose and mouth) is requirement of position at Ace Hardware. We will provide masks.
• Must be able to operate a computerized point of sale (POS) system/cash register.
• Must be able to clean using cleaning tools including, but not limited to: cleaning products, broom, dust pan, mop and mop bucket.
• Position requires standing, twisting, bending and walking the entire work day in a work area that may have restricted space such as cash register station and aisles.
• Must be able to climb a step stool or ladder occasionally.
• Must be able to lift, move, handle boxes of merchandise/fixtures in all areas of store.
• Must be able to lift items between 1 and 25 pounds frequently during every shift.
• Team lift of items in excess of 25 pounds, potentially, on every shift.
• Must be able to assist customers in carrying out items and loading into vehicles which entails lifting as set forth above.
