TITLE: School Psychologist

SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:

School Psychologists provide direct and indirect services to students including but not limited to evaluations to determine eligibility for special education services, assist in the development of behavior and academic intervention plans, and consult with the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support building based team. School psychologists are a part of the safety teams in each school building. School psychologists are viewed as an important resource for school staff and parents. School psychologists may conduct individual and group counseling sessions on an as needed basis.


WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct psycho-educational evaluations, which may include: intellectual, emotional, social adaptive, and academic functioning adhering to the appropriate timelines
  • Participates on building level Multidisciplinary Team (M-Team)
  • Counsels students individually and in groups to help students achieve personal, social, and emotional growth
  • Collaborate with teacher and other school personnel on methods to enhance student’s educational performance [e.g. assist with writing Individual Education Plans (IEP), conducting Functional behavior Assessment s(FBA) and developing Behavior intervention Plans (BIP)]
  • Supports MTSS team and assists with data gathering and analysis
  • Sign Medicaid referral for Speech/Language Services, Occupational Therapy Services, and other services as required by the Director of Special Education
  • Other duties as assigned

“Day In the Life” Overview

On a regular day, as a School Psychologist, you might:

  • Lead meetings to discuss possible referrals for evaluations
  • Conduct observations of students within the general education environment
  • Conduct cognitive, academic, and/or social emotional assessments
  • Attend case conferences


WHAT YOU’ll BRING: SKILLS AND MINDSETS

As an ideal candidate for this role, you will be able to achieve the following:

  • Demonstration of ethical principles and employs professional standards pertaining to the field of school psychology as set forth by the National Association of Psychologists (NASP) and the Professional Standards board.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State special education law
  • Maintenance and submission of accurate records while handling information in a private and confidential manner
  • Demonstrated repertoire of psychological skills, techniques, and assessments
  • Engagement in continuing professional development in order to keep abreast of current procedures, research, and techniques in the field.
  • Participation in teams to develop building-wide programs to improve school climate
  • Supervision of students of school psychology during their training and/or mentor school psychologists during their first years of practice


EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s Degree (M.S or M.A) plus 30 hours, Ed.S, Ed.D, or Ph.D in school psychology
  • Valid Indiana License in School Psychology
