GENERAL SUMMARY

It is the responsibility of the Airport Operations Center (AOC) Supervisor to provide for the proper operation of the Airport Operations Center in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations. The Control Center Supervisor shall supervise and manage all dispatch personnel assigned to their shift. In addition, the AOC Supervisor shall be able to perform all functions of an Airport Communications Specialist.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform the full range of Airport Communication Specialist functions when required
  • Train and mentor subordinates
  • Obey, support, and enforce the department’s rules, regulations, policies, and procedures and require the same of their employees
  • Set a good example for subordinates and require that employees meet all required standards of conduct and performance
  • Respond to and attempts to resolve complaints regarding operations or emergency dispatch activities through strict adherence to the Public Safety Investigative Process if necessary
  • Conduct internal investigations regarding possible misconduct taking disciplinary action when necessary
  • Monitor employee performance utilizing the Airport Performance Management System.
  • Immediately report and document to AOC Management any deficiency in equipment, personnel, or records
  • Supervise the use and maintenance of all equipment assigned to the dispatch center including CAD terminals, IDACS equipment, radio consoles and various other Public Safety and Security systems
  • Create records and reports as directed
  • Document any complaints and/or issues that occur during the shift and forwards to AOC Management as necessary
  • Ensure proper AOC staffing levels are maintained at all times; including periods of unforeseen absences, and during scheduled and unscheduled Airport events
  • Ensure the accuracy of departmental and organizational schedules and payroll records
  • Ensure the operational readiness of the IND Emergency Operations Center when activated and assumes role of EOC Manager in the absence of AOC Management
  • Perform any other functions assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of High School curriculum or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of increasing responsibilities in Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) or Airport Operations Center operations with a minimum of three (3) of these years at the IND AOC.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain and an Airport SIDA badge

  • Physical demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to walk, sit, use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, balance, stop, talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by the position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver’s license. Use of a computer and other personal assistance devices (tablets or mobile phone) are a must for this position.
  • Work environment: This position is performed within an office environment approximately 80-90% of the time. The other 10-20% the employee could be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. With multiple worksites the noise level varies from the office environment and the outside environment. The incumbent in this position is expected to work independently and as part of the team.
