Job Title: Director of Nurturing Children

Reporting Relationship: Executive Director of the Imaginarium

Unit: IWU-Marion

Summary of Position: The Director of Nurturing Children is responsible for 1) Collaborating with the Executive Director to run a Coordination Program for the Strengthening Ministry with Children Initiatives. 2) Assisting Lilly Endowment, Inc. in building and developing the Strengthening Ministry with Children Coordination Program. This position requires the development of relationships between Lilly Endowment, Inc. staff as well as various institutions in the Strengthening Ministry with Children Coordination Program. 3) Overseeing communication efforts on behalf of the Imaginarium and the Strengthening Ministry with Children Coordination Program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Lilly Endowment with the adjudication of invitational and competitive grant initiatives related to Strengthening Ministry with Children Coordination Program (SMWC)
  • Work alongside the Executive Director in executing and overseeing budgets
  • Oversee 2-4 yearly online or in-person learning events for organizations in SMWC
  • Assist the Executive Director in the planning of the Coordination Program Annual Gathering
  • Build relationships with grantees and facilitate learning and connections amongst grantees
  • Develop and refine systems for data, planning, and communication
  • Collaboration with other Endowment Coordination Program leaders/supporting and attending other Endowment events
  • Oversee evaluation efforts including the Coordination Program annual report
  • Work with grantees regarding completion of their annual program and financial report submissions to Lilly Endowment, Inc.
  • Read annual program reports submitted by grantees, prepare draft letter responses, and provide a written analysis of what is learned
  • Oversee “small grant offerings” program amongst grantees in SMWC
  • Assist in creation of resources for grantees in SMWC
  • Participate in teaching and coaching at online and in-person gatherings
  • Collaborate with the Design and Communication Manager to ensure the vision of the initiatives are clearly communicated
  • Work alongside Executive Director to create a comprehensive communication strategy for the Imaginarium and SMWC
  • Advise best practices and optimizations throughout design projects
  • Participate in marketing meetings with Executive Director and marketing consultants
  • Participate in staff leadership retreats as well as initiative gatherings
  • Attend/lead IWU staff meetings
  • This position requires some travel and evening hours
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Creative Developer of the Strengthening Ministry with Children initiative; Assistant Director of Nurturing Children; and Communication and Design Manager

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Master’s degree in area related to practical theology or non-profit management

Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Minimum of three (3) years in full-time, local church ministry or non-profit work
  • Experience in leading teams and small groups
  • Experience in writing and overseeing grants
  • Experience with budgets

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with various communication platforms.
  • Ability to teach on matters related to Christian formation both online and in-person to individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Strong writing and research skills related to grant development and funding
  • Ability to run and execute budgets
  • Ability to nurture and facilitate hospitable environments
