Job Title: Student Transitions Assistant (Part-time/Temporary)

Reporting Relationship: Dean of Students & Deputy Title IX Coordinator

Unit: IWU-Marion

Department: Student Development-IWU Marion

Campus Location: Barnes Student Center

Summary of Position: This position assists the Dean of Students in supporting New Student Orientation. As part of the larger Student Engagement team, this position takes an equity mindset to help the holistic support of first-year students. The Assistant for Student Transitions is expected to have a student-centered perspective, strong relational skills, and adept at administrative tasks including knowledge and comfort with the Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and implementing New Student Orientation for fall semester
  • Attend NSO Coordinating Team meetings
  • Develop and manage the web-based platform used for orientation scheduling and communication
  • Assist in managing first-year experience social media pages
  • Assist in the recruitment, training and supervision of the NSO Welcome Team
  • Assess the effectiveness of NSO
  • Identify needs of historically marginalized groups including ethnically diverse, first-generation, and low-socioeconomic students and create appropriate supports to foster success and belonging
  • Other duties as assigned within the student engagement area to provide support for staff and holistic development for students

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.


  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Enrollment in or completion of Master’s program at a regionally accredited institution


  • Experience in student affairs during undergraduate education preferred
