Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center is Hiring a Patient Care Technician Near Indianapolis, IN

Patient Care Technician

Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center provides comprehensive care for patients with hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder medical conditions and injuries. There are 11 highly-skilled and well-recognized surgeons in the practice and 22 highly-skilled hand therapists.

Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center was founded with the vision of delivering the highest quality patient care, providing the most respected postgraduate upper extremity training, and maintaining a work environment that provides satisfaction, pride, and excellence. Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center’s mission is to be the premier provider, educator, and innovator in the prevention and treatment of upper extremity disorders.

We are currently seeking an experienced Patient Care Technician to join our team! This individual will support a physician team in and out of clinic.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • maintains accuracy and integrity of medical records at all times as well as HIPAA compliance when accessing patient records
  • schedules patient follow-up appointments
  • directs patients to therapy if IHTSC therapy is ordered with corresponding order
  • coordinates scheduling of required tests for patients & obtains necessary prior-authorizations
  • prepares charts for clinic and surgery appointments
  • prepares pre-op and post-op packets for multiple locations
  • obtains and files all outstanding testing results and/or records prior to patient appointments
  • keeps exam rooms clean, organized, and properly stocked with necessary medical supplies
  • draws up injections
  • ensures patient flow throughout clinic and escorts patients to exam rooms as well as checks patients in and out of exam rooms
  • monitors and ensures completion of problem documents, documents for signature, and fee ticket corrections by routing to physician at the beginning of each clinic day
  • collection of clean and dirty instruments each clinic day
  • transports all cultures, pathology, etc. to IHTSC ASC and logs each appropriately; places copy of order into patient chart to ensure appropriate follow-up
  • follows Surgery Order Protocol; provides patient with DPS information sheet; forwards chart and order for assessment and clearance
  • monitors each fee ticket for completeness and accuracy and retains fee ticket for physician team completion if necessary
  • completes and routes all FMLA and/or Disability Forms for assigned physician team to Medicopy
  • monitors assigned telephone extension and returns calls for questions, requests, and/or concerns within 48 hours
  • sorts all inbound mail for assigned physician
  • backs-up other staff members as needed (this includes satellite locations where supported provider(s) is seeing patients)

*this position is more clerical/administrative in nature. Some patient contact but clinical skills limited to drawing up injections and removing dressings*

Requirements:

  • must be highly organized and possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • must be able to manage priorities and assist patients and team members in a pleasant, professional and courteous manner.
  • previous patient care technician experience, medical terminology, and computer literacy (preferred)
  • must be able to work well as a team to provide the best in patient care.
  • professional service oriented attitude required.
  • occasional travel to satellite locations possible.

This fast-paced position requires the ability to juggle multiple priorities with emphasis on patient care/patient relations. Must be well organized and detail-oriented. Computer skills essential and prior experience with medical terminology and EMR is preferred. The ability to set priorities, to be self-directed, and to perform activities efficiently and accurately is crucial.

The Patient Care Technician must have above average written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to handle interruptions that arise while maintaining a calm and professional attitude.
