WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT This course will train you to be eligible to work as a Patient Care Technician within the Franciscan Health Network. You will learn to perform all duties and tasks that are expected of the Patient Care Technician position. Responsibilities: Bathing Feeding Oral care Emptying drains Repositioning Ambulating Documentation Schedule: The course is 6 weeks long. There is a combination of in-class lectures at our education center and hands on training before starting clinical rotations in the hospital. You are expected to be there every day, all day. The first two weeks of training is classroom based. Clinical rotations start on the third week and the schedule could change depending on your clinical schedule. No one is allowed to be over 40 hours a week during the program. Supplies: The book, study materials, and any required equipment are provided to you. Scrubs do have to be purchased through the hospital. The assigned scrub color is royal blue. You can wear professional clothing or scrubs until yours arrive. In class information: Lecture is every day, followed by a quiz the next day. To successfully complete the program, you must pass the quizzes, midterm exam, final exam, and the final simulation with a score of 80% or more. You will be given a study guide for the final simulation and final exam. After successful completion of the course: You will be assigned to a unit. Please note classroom education and training may be on a shift different from what you will be working. During the interview process, it will be discussed what shift you prefer, 12-hour days or 12-hour nights. You must take a position that is a minimum of 0.6 FTE You will not be eligible for a PRN position. Part time is 0.6 FTE, or 24 scheduled hours/week: two 12-hour shifts per week, with a weekend/holiday rotation. Full time is 0.9 FTE, or 36 scheduled hours/week: three 12-hour shifts per week and a weekend/holiday rotation. Do I get a certification at the end of the class? This program is not a CNA certification class. It does not make you eligible to take the state CNA test. This program allows you to work for Franciscan as a PCT. Benefits: The employees are benefit eligible at the first of the next month they are hired into a part-time or full-time position. Benefits are open for selection during orientation. QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma/GED Required Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association will be taught in the class.
