Indian Health Service is Hiring a Nurse (Float Pool) Near Phoenix, AZ

This is a Direct Hire Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) for Nurse (Float Pool) in the Nursing Division at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona and will report to the Supervisory Nurse onsite.
Float Pool Nurses apply established professional nursing concepts, principles and practices to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care to patients presenting in a variety of settings.

Qualifications:

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree From Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.

GS-10 Basic Requirements: Possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program and at least one (1) year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level):
  • Managing the care of acutely and critically ill patients with a wide variety of conditions;
  • Experience in assessing the needs of acutely and critically ill patients, prioritizing care needs, working in a collaborative interdisciplinary team to address identified care needs of acutely and critically ill patients;
  • Experience coordinating and organizing the plan of care from admission through discharge.

Responsibilities:

  • Experience in prioritizing and organizing the plan of care for patients in a variety of settings.
  • Provides professional skilled, competent nursing care specific to age of the patient (adult, geriatric, obstetric, pediatric, neonate) to meet physical, emotional, spiritual and social-cultural needs of the patient, by means of direct care and teaching.
  • Documents observations, nursing interventions, responses to therapeutic measures and status of coordinated activities between nursing and other professional disciplines utilizing the approved hospital format.
  • Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician to include, but not limited to, medication administration, intravenous fluids, blood transfusions, treatments and maintains those measures taken which are ongoing in nature.
