POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: AR/AP Specialist

Status: Full-time, Hourly

Reports to: Assistant Controller

Position Summary: Assist with all general accounting functions, with emphasis on the accounts payable/receivable functions. Main contact for PAS services billing, with detailed work in denials, unpaid or improperly paid claims, and appeals to obtain maximum reimbursement. Position also includes work in the accounting software and other accounting support as needed.

Position Expected Hours of Work: Typical hours are full time 40 hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00AM through 4:30PM.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  1. Responsible for general accounting functions including accounts payable and receivable work especially the creation of all PAS billings using billing software, clearinghouses, electronic portals and paper billing (if needed) to complete the billing for each payroll cycle.
  2. Assist with the investigation and resolution of billing issues and exceptions with the ability to read and interpret payor explanations of benefits, identify denials and improperly paid claims. Work with the PAS department to resolve issues.
  3. Work collaboratively with the PAS department to ensure all claims are submitted with a goal of zero errors. This includes verifying accuracy of all claims prior to submission through Clearinghouse and accurately posting all insurance payments by line item.
  4. Responsible for communication with billing sources, clearinghouses, and the PAS department to problem solve issues as well as expedite claims management. In addition, responsible for the quarterly creation of a write-off report for aged receivables.
  5. Participate on PAS Billing/Accounts Receivable Team Meetings. Communicate regularly with staff and management on any issues with reimbursement or billing.
  6. Maintain an on-going knowledge of payor requirements as well as applicable contracts, regulations, and laws. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with carrier representatives.
  7. Perform all accounts payable duties associated with month-end closing procedures to include vouching all invoices, printing and calculating journal entries, accruals and tracking outstanding invoices. Also, maintenance of W-9 information for new vendors and assistance to Assistant Controller for maintenance of vendor list.
  8. Ability to support and take directions from multiple supervisors in the accounting department.
  9. Ability to work in and maintain various accounting, billing and payroll software.
  10. Responsible for a variety of tasks associated with the operation of the accounting department and Independence First as a whole.
