Independence Corrugated is Hiring a Tower Operator - 3rd Shift Near Oak, WI

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
  • Make sure all products being produced are of acceptable quality standards with a goal of 100% perfection. Check, monitor and enforce all quality standards including proper unitization and tagging procedures.
  • Must be able to read the dry end and wet end-run schedule.
  • Operate the corrugator according to plant operating culture and principles.
  • Work with Customer Service, Shipping and Quality departments on Overrun, Underrun, or scrapped sheets/units. Work with shipping to correct any mistakes and unitize loads to maximize trailer loading.
  • Make sure the machine and work areas are clean. Before the start of the shift inspect the production floor for cleanliness and proper stocking and report findings to current control room operator. Must also make sure areas are clean and properly supplied at shift changeover to ensure the success of the oncoming shift.
  • Run quality variance reports and special instruction reports on a regular basis to ensure that all special instructions are reported to the team and that all shortages have been addressed.
  • Review wet and dry end-run schedule and adjust as necessary. Also inform operators of any upcoming issues in the schedule.
  • Make sure PM functions are being properly performed through the shift.
  • Work with Sheet Line and Shipping to correct all issues in the rework area in a timely manner and ensure that no rework issues carry over into the following shift.
  • Work with the Wet End to make sure all paper is staged in a correct and timely manner and production quality and speed are maximized.
  • When the machine stops because any issue, the control room operator’s primary duty is to make sure that all operators are performing their secondary function in a safe and effective way and assist to get the machine running as quickly and as safely possible. It is not your job to do the work, it is your job to make sure the work is properly done.
OTHER SIGNIFICANTJOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
  • Work safely at all times, following and enforce all accepted company safe work practices. Through observation and monitoring, make sure all production employees are always working safely.
  • Provide performance feedback to Operators and arrange for Training as needed.
  • Ensure that all Operators have the proper training for the job they are performing. All Operators must be properly performing their assigned function in accordance with their job description and standard operating procedures. Employees should be properly placed and monitored according to their job skills and level of experience.
  • Provide OJT as needed.
  • The Control Room Operator is a low-level hourly management trainee. As such they are responsible for:
a). Performing team meetings and disseminating information about quality, safety, and training.
b). Perform coach and council sessions as needed.
c). Arrange for training as needed.
d). Reschedule makeup for shortages when required.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
  • Must be 18
  • GED or High School diploma
REQUIRED SKILLS (TECHNICAL, CLERICAL, LANGUAGE, ETC.)
  • Good communications skills.
  • Basic math skills and must be able to read a tape measure.
  • Must have computer skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS (TECHNICAL, CLERICAL, LANGUAGE, ETC.)
  • Corrugated experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb stairs often.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Production floor
