IMRIS is Hiring a Sr. Mechanical Engineer Near Chaska, MN

Join us in leading the industry in operating room imaging medical device innovation! As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll spearhead the design and development of cutting-edge life-saving class II medical devices, pivotal in projects dedicated to new product development.

We are seeking a seasoned professional in medical device development, one who boasts a proven track record of conquering technical hurdles with finesse. Your expertise will be instrumental in crafting innovative subsystems, including (for example) advanced electromechanical detection systems, structurally robust designs tailored to meet challenging constraints, and sophisticated cable management and retention systems.

In this role, you'll own all facets of the development lifecycle. From capturing intricate design specifications and fostering inventive concepts to creating drawings and providing invaluable insights during design transfer processes — you'll be at the forefront of development. Your impact extends beyond the computer screen; you'll actively contribute to lab assembly efforts and participate in the installation of fully integrated systems. Furthermore, you may play a pivotal role in the inaugural customer installation of our groundbreaking devices, solidifying your position as a driving force in the advancement of medical technology.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop recommendations for the design and development of medical device products.
  • May include the role of a subject matter expert on one or more of IMRIS’ product lines.
  • May include the role of Project or Technical Leader, which includes leading a multidisciplinary team, and influencing design direction outside the mechanical engineering team.
  • May lead the transition of system requirements to subsystem requirements in complex designs.
  • Estimate costs and time requirements for various designs and design activities.
  • Create 3D models, sketches, designs, layouts, drawings and other specifications for product definition.
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with a cross-functional team to establish robust product designs that meet requirements.
  • Participate in cross-functional product risk analysis.
  • May lead engineering prototype builds as well as assist in verification and validation activities.
  • Verify conformity to product specifications, design standards and external requirements.
  • Participate in design transfer of IMRIS products to both external vendors and IMRIS manufacturing, service and installation.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

  • Reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 6 years industry experience in mechanical product design
  • Technical leader experience of cross-functional product design leading 2-5 people.

Abilities

  • Proficient in machine design, with comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes such as mill, lathe and sheet metal forming.
  • Strong team orientation emphasizing collaboration and the generation of group solutions.
  • Driven by a sense of purpose, capable of clearly articulating goals, and applies initiative to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Competent in conducting and leading design reviews at the subsystem and system level.
  • Competent in leading root cause analysis and FMEA on mechanical systems.
  • Competent with tolerance analysis and its application to IMRIS products.
  • Competent in implementing GD&T drawing documentation.
  • Expert at engineering design using 3D modeling.
  • Experience in using SolidWorks 3D CAD.

Preferred

  • Experience performing FEA structural analysis.
  • Knowledge of FDA QSR, ISO 13485 and UL 60601.
  • Knowledge of composite structures.
