A DAY IN THE LIFE AS AN ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING (ADON) / REGISTERED NURSE (RN)

As the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) / Registered Nurse (RN), you assist the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, organizing, developing, staffing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Service Department. You provide leadership and hands-on support for the staff, resolving issues and keeping everyone informed about changes. Using your good organizational skills, you develop work schedules and delegate administrative tasks. You assist the supervisory staff and make sure that each and every staff member promotes our high standards and has the best interests of our senior, disabled, and rehab residents at heart. You monitor medication passes and treatment schedules, reporting any medication errors promptly. As needed, you provide direct nursing care.

To ensure that all work assignments and resident care needs are met, you make daily rounds. Supervising all admissions, you oversee eligibility for Medicare skilled services and coordinate therapeutic services for residents. You promptly notify all providers of any changes in residents' status of eligibility and ensure that written physician orders for skilled services are obtained according to Medicare guidelines. You are goal-oriented and work closely with the DON to review and continually improve the department's operations. Thanks to your effective planning, daily quality assurance measures, and excellent leadership, our program continues to achieve excellent care outcomes. QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING (ADON) / REGISTERED NURSE (RN)

  • 2 years of supervisory experience in a long-term care or rehab setting
  • Current and unencumbered Pennsylvania RN license
  • Knowledge about the needs of senior, disabled, and chronically ill patients who require long-term care
  • Strong leadership skills

Prior experience as an Assistant Director of Nursing and a bachelor's degree are highly preferred but multiple factors will be taken into consideration. Do you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate to personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government officials, and the general public? Are you patient, tactful, and cheerful? Can you manage high-stress situations in a healthy way? Are you organized, self-motivated, and able to prioritize and delegate tasks effectively?
