Position: Senior Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET III)

JOB SUMMARY: The client is seeking a Senior Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET III) to perform repairs, overhauls, modifications, and inspections of various medical equipment. Additionally, the selected candidate will supervise the day-to-day operations of technical personnel in a designated area.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Administrative

• May provide guidance and instructions to colleagues as necessary for job tasks.
• Interpret instructional and maintenance manuals, as well as blueprints, mechanical drawings, and schematic diagrams related to equipment services.
• Establish and manage an inventory of spare parts, tools, and materials.
• Validate repairs, preventative maintenance, and performance checks conducted by supervised technicians.
• Willingness to travel as required to perform the technical duties outlined below.

Technical

• Troubleshoot and repair linear, digital, analog, and microprocessor-based circuitry.
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems and sub-systems.
• Examine, troubleshoot, and repair various electronic and electro-mechanical medical devices, including but not limited to physiologic monitors, infusion devices, defibrillators, electrosurgical units (ESUs), and other common patient care devices.
• Operate test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, safety analyzers, ESU analyzers, defibrillator analyzers, and physiological input simulators.
• Be prepared to assume 24-hour, on-call repair responsibilities within an appropriate interval.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of three years of experience in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining medical devices, gained through work within an in-house BMET program in a healthcare institution or with a clinical engineering program dealing with various medical device and patient care facility issues.
• Preferably, prior experience in supervising a team of technicians responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing most medical equipment commonly found in healthcare institutions.
• Educational background should include the completion of a two-year associate degree program in Biomedical Equipment Technology or an equivalent military/non-military qualification.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, and modifying various types of electric, electronic, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic medical instruments, along with the ability to effectively instruct others in these matters.
• Strong record-keeping skills.
• Crisis management abilities.
• Familiarity with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards in general and Environment of Care (EOC) elements related to medical equipment in particular.
• AAMI Certification as a Biomedical Equipment Technician should be obtained within one year of accepting this position and maintained current.
• Capable of accessing and working in confined spaces with minimal or no assistance.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. unassisted to chest height and 60 lbs. with assistance.
• Willingness to work with potentially harmful/irritating chemicals.
• Proficient in reading and writing English and effectively communicating with hospital staff, vendors, manufacturers, and corporate staff.
• Possession of a reliable means of transportation and a valid driver's license.
• Must meet or exceed all requirements of a BMET, Intermediate Level.
