POSITION PURPOSE

Reporting to the Assistant / Project Manager, the Lead Crew Member is responsible for overseeing field processes and data collection to ensure the completion of assigned projects.

As necessary, the Lead Crew Member will provide guidance and direction to the Instrument Operator to ensure efficient survey operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Proficiently operate various field equipment, such as Trimble / Leica / Spectre robotic total stations, GPS RTK Units, 3D Laser Scanners, etc.

• Upload and download field data files, including raw, fbk, asc files, photos, and field notes, for review and collaboration with the office staff
• Maintain proper documentation and organization of project files upon completion
• Interpret maps, scale off drawings, determine distances, and read map symbols and notes
• Possess knowledge of different types of surveys, their purposes, and differences
• Ensure effective communication with the Assistant / Project Manager and other team members
• Maintain and calibrate equipment, and schedule necessary calibrations and maintenance
• Understand calibration requirements for various surveying field instruments
• Identify and implement efficient task performance methods
• Adapt to situations where advanced equipment may be unavailable due to battery or equipment failure
• Utilize general computer applications (., Windows Explorer, Word, Excel) for surveying purposes
• Assume increased responsibilities as necessary
• Expand knowledge of land surveying through training and educational classes
• Be available for overtime work and overnight travel, if required
• Contribute insights and ideas during company meetings
• Display punctuality and reliability
• Ensure equipment setup adheres to safety regulations
• Provide utility documentation as per company policy, including checklists and sketches
• Maintain quality control of field notes, raw data, coordinates files, and sketches
• Perform construction-related survey tasks, such as stakeout, grading, and site infrastructure
• Maintain a professional presence on-site and effectively communicate with superintendents, clients, and office staff
• Offer solutions or alternatives to achieve job objectives
• Perform field calculations to modify stakeout when necessary
• Maintain company vehicle and inventory
• Self-organize and motivate during solo work and supervise instrument operators when assigned
• Complete checklists for quality control and time management purposes
• Represent the company professionally and communicate regularly with customers on-site
• Perform any other assigned duties

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES / EDUCATION

• Minimum of 5 years of successful surveying experience
• High School Diploma with strong math and computer skills
• Desire and ability to learn new technologies and expand skillsets
• Proficiency in field coding for auto linework generation
• Ability to obtain additional certifications, such as OSHA, Hazwoper, TWIC, etc.
• Valid driver's license

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Lead Crew Member must be physically capable of lifting up to 75 lbs and standing / walking for at least 8 hours per day.

The job requires extensive bending, kneeling, climbing, hiking, digging / shoveling, and lifting. Work may be performed in hot, cold, wet, humid, or other weather conditions.

The Lead Crew Member primarily works in the field, including busy streets and construction sites, with exposure to vehicular traffic and loud noise.
