illinois is Hiring a Veterinary Technician III - Intermediate Care Ward/Isolation Near Urbana, IL

Serve as Clinical Coordinator and Supervising technician on the clinic floor. Provide oversight and support for lower-level veterinary technicians, assistants and hourly staff (extra help/student help). Supervise medical support activities in a professional and courteous manner independently with proficiency and expertise.
• Serve as liaison between IMC and other VTH services
• Create and manage protocols, curriculum and training modules to orient and instruct veterinary technical staff and students on treatments, procedures, patient set-up, as well as the use of specialized equipment such as ECG, rectal probes, direct and indirect blood pressures, defibrillator etc.
• Assist with development and maintenance of departmental policies and procedures and ensure policies are upheld and maintained.
• Coordinate hiring, training, work assignments and scheduling of lower-level veterinary technicians, assistants and hourly staff.
• Back up for biweekly timesheet approvals and time off requests.
• Conduct performance evaluations and facilitate performance management when needed for lower-level veterinary technicians, assistants and hourly staff.
• Assist with orientation and instruction of students, interns and residents.

Provide advanced, highly skilled, paramedical technical and patient support, nursing care and instruction in a professional and courteous manner independently with proficiency and expertise.
• Work as a team with students, interns, residents and faculty to provide skilled nursing care for all patients including, but not limited to post-surgical, chronic conditions, and isolation, which may include methicillin resistant organisms and zoonotic diseases.
• Use problem solving skills to anticipate, recognize, and prevent patient health issues.
• Recognize highly critical, emergent, and problem solve in emergent and non-emergent situations.
• Recognize physical abnormalities such as, but not limited to; cardiac murmurs and arrhythmias, abnormal pulmonary auscultation, respiratory difficulty and distress, change in mentation, renal failure, hypotension, signs of shock and other advanced disease processes.
• Institute advanced life support practices (CPR).
• Set up equipment for use on patients; including oxygen, fluid pumps, syringe pumps, pulse oximeter, end-tidal CO2 monitor, direct and indirect blood pressure monitor, ECG and temperature monitor.
• Assist with procedures such as abdominocentesis, fine needle aspirates, nasogastric/esophageal tube placement.
• Perform placement of, maintain, and trouble-shoot: peripheral IV catheters, jugular IV catheters, PICC catheters, intraosseous catheters, urinary catheters and nasal oxygen catheters.
• Set up and administer blood products, continuous rate infusions, TPN/PPN (parenteral nutrition) and enteral feedings (NE, NG, E-tube, PEG and J-tube).
• Collect and submit blood (venous and arterial), urine and fecal samples.
• Administer anesthesia under the direction of the clinician in select cases.
• Calculate, prepare, administer and record controlled substances under the direction of the veterinarian.
• Calculate, dispense, and administer medications and fluids under the direct or written orders of the veterinarian.
• Provide patient restraint as needed and to manage restraint for difficult to handle patients.
• Report information about the patient to the clinician and make recommendations on patient care strategies.
• Monitor and review patient flowsheets for completion and compliance.
• Record vital parameters, clinical signs, diagnosis, treatments, test results in Health Information System (HIS).
• Review, troubleshoot and correct any needed patient record and enter charges into the hospital’s HIS patient record for history and billing purposes.
• Maintain IMC/ ISO patient logs.

Facilities Maintenance – Supervise, clean, stock, and maintain clinical areas, equipment and supplies.
• Maintain necessary clinical supplies.
• Maintain sanitary clinical conditions.
• Coordinate with animal caretakers to address routine and non-routine animal housing needs.
• Operate, clean, and maintain clinical equipment, including specialized equipment, such as incubators, anesthesia machines, endoscope, blood analysis machine, etc.
• Ensure efficient and appropriate operation of clinical equipment.
• Oversee and attend to needed repairs/maintenance of facilities and equipment.
