Illinois Institute of Technology is Hiring an Event Coordinator, Student Life Near Chicago, IL

Reporting to the Director for Student Life, the Event Coordinator (EC) is a full-time professional staff person who will assist in the development, coordination and maintenance of a comprehensive Student Life program that promotes, increases, and retains student engagement and participation at Illinois Tech. The EC works directly with students who are planning events on behalf of their organization and will also advise and support Union Board (UB), Illinois Tech’s largest student programming board with event planning and management. The EC will also serve as the main contact for The Bog operations and facility management.
COMMUNICATIONS
Excellent electronic, written, and verbal communication is required.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Excellent customer service is required. The EC’s constituents are students, faculty advisors, co-workers, and campus partners.
Special Schedule Requirements
There may be a need for some night and weekend hours based on event schedule.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree with 1-2 years professional work experience with event planning and management is required.
Knowledge & Skills
Event management experience in a higher education setting is preferred. The person in this position will be a direct contact to Illinois Tech students, the Illinois Tech community, and external constituents who deal with talent management, equipment rentals, etc.
SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITY
The EC may supervise a limited number of student staff members.
Physical Environment and Requirements
Computer work and meetings with people (in-person and virtual). Standing for long periods of time, walking, and some light lifting and moving objects for events is possible.

Key Responsibility
Advise Union Board, the largest student event planning organization at Illinois Tech, to provide programming to the student body that focuses on community building, creates an exciting campus environment, and supports students socially outside the classroom on and off campus. Also advise the Commuter Student Association. Work with agents, vendors, etc. for student events.

Key Responsibility
Manage the operation of The Bog (the university recreation center and commuter lounge). Supervise, recruit, and train 10-15 student workers for Bog operations and 2-4 Commuter Ambassadors. Partner with Dining Services and Facilities on food offerings and maintenance of the facility. Manage equipment in The Bog.

Advise student organizations with event planning. Manages events through ECs and partner with the Events Services team to reserve event space and ensure proper set-up.

Assist with the planning and execution of university-wide large-scale programs such as Welcome Week, Homecoming, SOAR , move-in, etc. Other duties as assigned.
