ILLINOIS CENTRAL COLLEGE is Hiring a Full Time Tenure Track / Teaching Chair -Theatre Near East Peoria, IL

Illinois Central College is seeking a qualified, creative, dynamic and collegial individual to provide instruction and serve as Teaching Chair in the Theatre program of study with the Arts and Behavioral Sciences Department to begin in the Fall of 2024. This is a full time, tenure track position.

This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Instruct and coordinate courses including lecture for Theatre Appreciation; Acting; Directing; Technical Theatre, Theatrical Design; Stage Make-Up; Costume Design, Script Analysis, and more, depending upon the individual’s areas of expertise and abilities. 

  2. The faculty member may be assigned to teach courses in a related field. 
  3. As Teaching Chair, the faculty member will coordinate the efforts of adjunct faculty in the Theatre area, as well as possible contract hires for production, and community volunteers.
  4. Direct or Design and/or produce the department’s vibrant theatre production program. Our productions are housed in a large, modern performing arts center on campus, with full technical capacity, including a 400 proscenium stage, full dressing room and shop and a highly adaptable black box space. The theatre program currently produces three-four plays a year in collaboration with the PAC which also produces a full season of guest artist andin-residence performances. The PAC is fully staffed and works collaboratively with the Theatre Teaching Chair.
  5. Responsible for coordinating with the Dean and partners in implementing a newly revised plan of success for the theater program including transfer articulation and curriculum updates; budget proposals and viability studies. 
  6. Work collaboratively with the Performing Arts Center Manager and staff.
  7. Assist in the development, evaluation, and teaching of program curriculum. 
  8. Assess and evaluate student learning.
  9. Develop a recruitment plan, conduct outreach regionally, and advise students. 
  10. Perform related duties as assigned.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

  1. Master's degree in Theater OR a master's degree in a related discipline with a minimum of 18 hours in Theater.

  2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in Theater with the ability to teach related courses and direct/produce theatrical performances. Please note that all experiences and resume credits should be verifiable upon request.

  3. Ability to serve the needs of a diverse student population and aid in building a safe and inclusive community of learners.

  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Teams

  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  6. Strong analyzing and problem-solving skills. 

  7. Strong organizing and prioritizing skills to meet critical deadlines. 

  8. Strong multi-tasking and decision-making skills. 

  9. Strong, proactive interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional relationships with others. 

  10. Must be highly collegial, collaborative, and operate from a student centered, positive perspective.

  1. MFA in acting, directing, design, or other theatre discipline related areas of study or demonstrated professional/creative experience in the performing arts.

  2. Strong ability to teach Theatre from a Generalist perspective and to mirror a best practices approach to theatrical study.
  3. Community college teaching experience with a demonstrable understanding of a two-year teaching environment and mission such as ICC’s. 
  4. Experience teaching in an in person and online environment. 
  5. Ability to work in any of the following areas, depending upon applicant experience and abilitiesacting, script analysis, designchoreography or movement for the actor, voice, directing; working in Vectorworks Spotlight, Auto Cad, SFX, or other technological design tools; working knowledge trends in technology and direction as used in live theatre.
  6. Verifiable experience within various theatrical production environments at either the professional, community, and/or educational level.
  7. A willingness to establish and maintain relationships in the theatre and performing arts communities regionally and beyond where possible, including possible areas such as KCACTF, Thespians, and the NAST accrediting body.
