IEI is Hiring a Safety Manager Program Improvement Near Washington, DC

Inspection Experts, Inc. (IEI) a leading provider of facility, infrastructure and technology development services to government and private sector clients, is seeking an exceptional and highly motivated professional for a Department of Energy (DOE) Safety Manager Program Improvement role based in Richland, WA.

In this critical position, you will play a key role in implementing and ensuring the effective integration of safety management programs across all DOE Hanford organizations, with the goal of efficiently accomplishing missions while safeguarding worker wellbeing, public health, and environmental protection.

Responsibilities

  • Providing expert guidance to implement and support the effective execution of DOE Hanford site Integrated Safety Management programs.
  • Enhancing, implementing, and overseeing processes, KPIs, and overall effectiveness of the Integrated Safety Management program.
  • Supporting Hanford site-wide committees dedicated to continuous improvement of DOE and contractor safety management.
  • Developing high-quality deliverables including schedules, white papers, research documentation, and assessment reports.
  • Creating training materials and delivering training and briefings to management and staff.
  • Driving continuous improvement efforts and delivering thoroughly documented work products.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent experience.
  • Deep expertise in Integrated Safety Management (ISM) principles and practices within the DOE environment.
  • Substantial experience as an authoritative SME for ISM requirements, including program implementation and project management.
  • Track record of developing business intelligence and KPIs to monitor performance.
  • Proven ability to drive improvement, manage change, and influence culture within DOE programs.
  • Excellent business and technical writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong leadership in conducting compliance and performance assessments.
  • Demonstrated success initiating and executing enhancements to DOE program efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.

Other Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in safety management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the DOE complex or similar highly regulated environment.
  • Expert knowledge of ISM core functions, guiding principles, and implantation methodologies.
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing and improving safety programs, driving safety culture change, and reducing injury/illness rates.
  • Extensive experience with safety data analysis, trending, and reporting to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate cross-functional teams, build consensus, and influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Exceptional project management skills, with expertise in developing and executing complex, long-term initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of root cause analysis, corrective action development, and effectiveness verification methodologies.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, presentation, and communication abilities, with strong business and technical writing skills.
  • OSHA 30-hour construction safety, HAZWOPER, and other relevant safety training certifications a plus.
  • Prior experience serving on DOE or National Laboratory safety committees, working groups, or advisory panels highly valued.
