We are currently seeking a CNC Machinist to bolster an already strong team! We are looking for a self-motivated, hands-on CNC Machinist with production, quality and experience in mechanical prototyping a bonus. Main duties will be as a CNC machine operator, your duties will include running tests before the start of operations, programming and monitoring machines when assembling products and inspecting machinery at the end of each shift to identify parts needing repair. This position will work with cross functional groups from manufacturing operations, quality and engineering members in supporting the design, development and manufacturing of Cree Lighting products.

This position will work onsite at our Racine, WI headquarters.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support engineering from concept through production including fabrication and modification of product through our manual prototyping, CNC machining services
  • CNC Milling Operation specific to process: setup & test, programming, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance
  • Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, CAD and CAM software, dimensional prints and layouts or defined plans to perform tasks
  • Set up or program the CNC computer responsible for the machinery
  • Follow safety requirements and maintain certifications as required
  • Use manufacturing equipment including, but not limited to; manual mills, CNC milling machines, sheet metal press and break, and various saws and hand tools
  • Inspect the machinery and product for quality assurance
  • Perform daily maintenance on the machinery
  • Schedule and maintain machines with preventative maintenance plans
  • Inventory, stock, and handle materials appropriately and safely to support operation
  • Manage and prioritize request schedules from start to finish
  • Complete tasks in creative and effective ways with minimal guidance and oversight
  • Work across company functional organizations to ensure project success

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in physical mechanical work with sheet metal, manual metal working machines, and CNC
  • Background in CAD/CAM software, machining and metal work 
  • Ability to understand instructions quickly and perform multiple jobs within the same day
  • Ability to work independently and be self-sufficient while knowing when to ask for help
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with MS Office tools including Excel and Word or equivalents
  • Accomplish organizational goals by accepting ownership for new and different requests while exploring opportunities to add value to job/team/Cree Lightings accomplishments
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent training in Mechanical Engineering or other related technical field preferred

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Mastercam Software experience preferred
  • Brother (4-Axis) CNC Machine or similar experience
  • Haas (5-Axis) CNC Machine or similar experience
  • CNC Milling Machine setup and test, programming, operations, machine monitoring, inspections, and preventative maintenance tasks
  • Various hand tools, punches, grinders, band & miter saws, drill press, sanding, bead blasting, shearing and cutting equipment
  • 1-2 year of related experience required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Physical work of lifting and maneuvering 25 or more pounds may be needed at times
  • Sit at a computer or desk for extended periods of time
  • Stand for long periods of time, up to 4 continuous hours and up to 8 – 12 hours during a shift
  • Frequent walking through the department/building
  • Use hands/arms to operate required equipment and repetitive motion activities
  • Bend, stoop or crouch while performing daily activities of the job
  • Operate power equipment
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment
  • Ability to work in an environment with fluctuating temperature
