SHIFT:

  • Days, subject to change according to business needs. Must be available for regular standby assignments and work scheduled off-hours and for emergency purposes.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Manager provides leadership, acts as a coach, mentor, and facilitator for the Maintenance Department. The Maintenance Manager will be expected to foster teamwork within the workplace while utilizing daily measures to achieve results. This position is also responsible for hiring, coaching, training, employee evaluations and performance reviews, and taking corrective action when needed. This position requires good knowledge of production processes and plant infrastructure. He/She understands the relationship of the production process and supply chain to direct and coordinate activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment. The Maintenance Manager oversees the maintenance of buildings, grounds, and utility systems of the plant by performing duties personally or through subordinates. In addition, the Maintenance Manager coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services such as equipment, tools, parts, and supplies for the organization. The Maintenance Manager must have the ability to anticipate and prevent problems within the supply chain and address them in a timely manner. He/She sets and communicates quantifiable goals for maintenance and inventory functions while complying with the processes established by finance, human resources, quality, safety, engineering, and maintenance functions. The Maintenance Manager must be a change agent who uses the company’s vision and strategy in his/her communications. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the execution of the maintenance program to ensure effective and efficient service.
  • Works in conjunction with the production team to maintain throughput and plant efficiencies while continuously striving to reduce plant downtime and improve the preventive maintenance program.
  • Ensures PMCS procedures are carried out in accordance with SOP and SSOP in a timely manner.
  • Uses statistical process control tools to plan and modify maintenance activities, and to establish and monitor plant utilities and services.
  • Inspects machines and processes for conformance to operational standards.
  • Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Selects products for purchase by testing, observing, seeking feedback from end users, or examining items.
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine the source of trouble and take corrective action.
  • Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production operations.
  • Coordinates activities of workers conducting maintenance or purchasing in such a manner as to improve service and lower costs where possible.
  • Assists in budgeting process for maintenance department with adherence to the approved budgeted maintenance expenditures.
  • Evaluates, plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
  • Tracks labor costs and manages over-time (OT) to maximize services at the lowest possible labor cost per CWT
  • Approves maintenance invoices for payment and reviews requisitions.
  • Prepares purchase orders or bid requests. Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • Publishes a PMCS schedule that meets maintenance requirements and allows production to meet its planned forecast.
  • Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide a continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, refrigeration, and air required for operations.
  • Maintains procurement/maintenance records such as items or services purchased, cost, delivery, product quality, or performance and inventories.
  • Expedites delivery of services to users.
  • Solicits ideas from employees regarding the improvement of safe work environment.
  • Monitors number of near miss accidents and works closely with the Safety Department to implement preventive safety measures.
  • Assists in reporting and investigation of safety related accidents.
  • Knows, understands, and complies with OSHA and Safety Regulations.
  • Helps ensure compliance to plant safety training programs.
  • Assists with paperwork and follow-up requirements for all department accidents.
  • Communicates safety issues/concerns to Safety Department and direct supervisor.
  • Maintains routine communication of the company’s mission, vision, and values along with short-term objectives.
  • Solicits and encourages new ideas from employees to improve processes.
  • Utilizes shift pass-down meetings to effectively communicate progress and goal measures.
  • Conducts employee reviews on time.
  • Provides adequate time, training materials, and other resources that assist employees in learning their roles and responsibilities.
  • Directs training and indoctrination of workers to improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures. 

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, industrial or another related field.
  • Required: High School diploma/GED or equivalent work-related experience.

Experience:

  • Required: Minimum 5 years technical expertise in an industrial manufacturing facility.
  • Required: Minimum 5 years' experience in maintenance planning and budgeting.
  • Required: Minimum 5 years' experience in managing technical personnel in a highly diverse and challenging work environment.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency using a variety of computer software applications, especially Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint software.
  • Proficiency in part or whole in mechanical, electrical, controls, electronics, welding, and machining.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective prioritizing, organizing, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, execute plans, strategies and achieve desired results.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently ascending and/or descending of ladders and stairs using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances on a regular basis.
  • Repetitive motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist on a regular basis.
  • Reaching: Extending hands and arms in any direction.
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees occasionally.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Lifting: Able to lift up to 100lb occasionally and 50lb regularly.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Includes activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • The worker is subject to environmental conditions: both indoors and outdoors.
  • There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  • Subject to up to at least 92db’s.

Equipment Operated:

  • Welders, mills, lathes, cutting equipment, grinders, drills, and phones.
