IC - Chicago Magnificent Mile (ORDHA) is Hiring a Mixologist Casa Chi Near Chicago, IL

Mixologist will, in conjunction with bar manager be responsible for maintaining budgeted liquor cost and beverage cost. In addition, he or she will also assist with liquor ordering, receiving, and inventory. Mixologist will also be responsible for observing and incorporating the Core Beverage mandates, including backbar, well and menu placements. When applicable Mixologist will also assist with the beer menu, beer purchasing and beer costs.

Specific Duties shall include all standard Bartender duties, and shall include the following, which may be amended to suit the individual needs of the bar environment:

  • Menu Creation
    • Mixologist will work closely with Bar Manager and will be responsible for cocktail menu creation and implementation, observing and incorporating Core Beverage mandates, as well as such spirits as align with the concept of the bar or restaurant. The menu shall be cohesive and adhere to the stylistic guidelines of the concept.
    • Mixologist will be responsible for maintaining relevance in the lounge competitive set, and will drive PR opportunities through unique and interesting cocktail creations, PR appearances and menu options.
  • Spirits Curation
    • Mixologist shall maintain the back bar in a neat and organized fashion, keeping bottles clean and labels facing out, and maintaining stock in such fashion that out-of-stock issues are limited.
    • He or she shall develop and maintain relationships with distributors and suppliers, where appropriate, so as to stay abreast of current releases of new spirits.
    • He or she shall maintain awareness of the spirits industry via reading and, where appropriate, attending industry events.
    • He or she shall maintain a spirit’s selection that is appropriate to the concept and locale of the restaurant or bar, and is in compliance with Core Beverage standards and mandates.
  • Staff Training
    • Mixologist shall provide training material for the bartenders and front-of-house staff, including servers; material shall explain the cocktail menu and give insight as to how the staff may interpret the menu to guests.
    • He or she shall hold a staff wide training once per quarter in conjunction with new cocktail menu rollout, tasting new cocktails and providing background information and tasting notes.
  • PR Generation
    • Mixologist shall work in conjunction with local or regional PR teams and participate in media opportunities and, when appropriate, shall act to drive positive media attention to the lounge in a way that is consistent with the concepts positioning.
  • Bar Cleanliness
    • Mixologist shall work in conjunction with managers to develop cleaning schedules and areas of attention. He or she shall report damaged bar equipment and tools to management immediately.
  • Liquor Ordering and Cost Control
    • When applicable, the Mixologist shall help develop pars and assemble weekly liquor orders in conjunction with the Bar manager.
    • He or she needs to have strong awareness of costs when developing cocktails and a cocktail menu in such a way as to maintain budgeted liquor cost. When necessary, he or she shall work in unison with Bar manager.
    • He or she shall undertake such training as may be necessary to establish familiarity with such cost control tools as Excel, InfoGenesis and others.
  • Core Beverage
    • Mixologist shall maintain Core Beverage compliance throughout the restaurant or bar, both in well selections, back bar selections, quarterly menu selections, and yearly menu features.
  • Beer
    • Mixologist when appropriate to the concept shall be responsible for maintaining a current, relevant and balanced beer list, and shall provide necessary tasting notes and training material for staff training.
    • He or she shall work in conjunction with the Bar manager or primary beverage director to maintain inventory, maintain budgeted beer costs, develop pars, and create weekly order lists.
  • Wine
    • Mixologist when appropriate to the concept shall be responsible for maintaining a current, relevant and balanced wine list, and shall provide necessary tasting notes and training material for staff training.
    • He or she shall work in conjunction with the Bar manager or primary beverage director to maintain inventory, maintain budgeted wine costs, develop pars, and create weekly order lists.
  • Hiring and Staff Oversight
    • Mixologist shall make recommendations when appropriate for hiring of bar staff and service staff. These recommendations shall be taken into account by management when interviewing and hiring staff.
    • He or she shall assist management with current staff evaluations based on their presence and work ethic behind the bar.
  • Event Representation
    • Mixologist shall, when possible and appropriate, represent the Bar at such offsite events as fundraisers, galas, competitions, etc. If he or she is not available he or she shall make recommendations as to who may represent the bar or restaurant.
  • Other Duties and Responsibilities

a. Maintain constant flow of communication with and to the team.

b. Consultation and sourcing of bar tools and small wares.

c. Consultation on glassware, bar equipment and additional bar-related items.

d. Communicates to his or her manager any difficulties, guest comments and other relevant information.

e. Follows proper key handling procedures.

f. Performs and supervises daily tasks and cleaning schedules.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Prior knowledge and experience in bartending with preference in mixology
  • Flexible in work schedule with ability to work nights, weekends and holidays
  • Able to speak and understand English
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical functions
  • Ability to provide legible written communication
  • Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize, organize work and follow through
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to comprehend instructions
  • Ability to work cohesively with colleagues as part of a team
  • Ability and willingness to perform job tasks according to established standards

Desirable:

  • Food hygiene certificate (Food handling)
  • Beverage handling certificate (TIPS or BASSET)
  • First aid awareness
  • Japanese or Spanish language skills
  • Friendly, upbeat and outgoing personality
