Automation Technician Job Description:
Experience & Skills:
•Minimum of 7 years of hands-on automation and I&E experience.
•Advanced knowledge required to program, configure, and troubleshootvarious PLC’s/RTU’s including but not limited to: Emerson ROC, ABB Total flow, Scada Pak, IDEC, Allen Bradley.
•Proficiency with Modbus and other industry-standard communicationprotocols.
•Expertise in configuring and troubleshooting radio communicationsacross various communication protocols.
•Comprehensive skills in troubleshooting and calibrating a wide range ofinstrumentation.
•In-depth understanding of P&ID’s, Cause & Effect documents, andrelated diagrams.
•Proficient in Instrumentation and Low Voltage Electrical Systems.
•Detailed awareness of NEC code requirements, especially as they relateto the Oil & Gas Industry.
•Extensive background in troubleshooting VFD’s, motor starters, motors,and electrical distribution systems.
•A strong foundation in both Upstream and Midstream Oil and GasProcesses.
•Proficient in using equipment such as Multimeters, Meggers, AmpProbes, Calibration equipment (like HAT, Crystal, loop calibrator), and other industry-standard tools.
Responsibilities: Take the lead in:•Designing, programming, and implementing automation projects.
•Inspecting, calibrating, and repairing end devices: transmitters, switches,fire eyes, hazardous gas detection, level detection.
• Installing, maintaining, and repairing instrumentation and electrical equipment: valve actuators, positioners, electric motors, VFD’s, motor starters, and electrical distribution panels.
• Overseeing the functioning of control system components like PLC’s, HMI’s, UPS Systems, and RTU’s.
• Implementing and maintaining solar charging and communication systems.
• Providing training and guidance to junior technicians and helpers.
Education/Training:• A Bachelor's degree in industrial instrumentation/automation or related field is preferred.
• A Journeyman Electrician license for Texas and/or New Mexico would be a strong advantage.
• A proactive, result-oriented approach with a strong commitment to accuracy, quality, and the latest industry trends.
• Must demonstrate outstanding communication abilities, both written and verbal.
• Superior problem-solving skills, adaptability, and a keen desire to stay updated with evolving technologies.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and to liaise effectively with various departments including management, engineering, systems, operations, and field personnel.
Work conditions:• Often works under tight schedules, ensuring that automation systems function flawlessly.
• Exposure to varying field conditions and may involve travel to different sites or locations.
• Compliance with all safety standards and drug/alcohol testing as per industry and federal regulations.
