Overview

A clinical specialist is able to perform all tasks of a clinical pharmacy (see Job Code 4473). Additionally, clinical specialists are responsible for developing a practice in their area of specialty, including a strong relationship with the associated nursing unit(s)/department(s). Clinical specialists are expected to identify, implement, and monitor projects and programs proactively; participate in the hospital's MUE program; precept residents and students; and otherwise further the hospital's mission of serving its patients and becoming nationally recognized for clinical and service excellence. Requirements include a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and residency training (or demonstrated equivalent clinical experience). Excellent communication, organization, selfdirection, and prioritization skills are required.

Qualifications

Education required: Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited university

LIcense, certification and/or registration: License to Practice Pharmacy in Alabama

Experience: Prior experience preferred. PGY-1 residency required. PGY-2 residency or relevant clinical experience strongly preferred. May consider non-residency trained candidates if experience indicates the ability to perform these job functions. BCLS is required prior to the end of the orientation period and must be maintained as current.

Additional skils/abilities: Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Must be proficient in Mathematics.
