About This Role:

The Product Manager manages a market driven product group by developing product marketing business plans to support the company’s strategic plan. Develops, administers, and manages all aspects of the product line from concept to service.

Demonstrates behavior consistent with the company’s values of Customer Satisfaction, Innovation, Family, and Social Responsibility.

There are 2 positions available:

1. Mechanical Irrigations Products: manage the product line for water emission devices for landscape irrigation.

2. Irrigation Electronics: manage irrigation controllers and software used for managing residential and commercial landscapes.

Essential Job Functions/Tasks:

  • Supports the team to ensure that all existing products in the portfolio are up to corporate quality standards. Works with Engineering to define final product functional and appearance specifications. Works with Engineering and Manufacturing to ensure that all product and packaging changes are thoroughly reviewed before implementation and distribution.
  • Entrusted with medium sales volume products and entrusted with high sales volume products with guidance. Makes business decisions with limited guidance from Category Manager.
  • Analyzes and understands the customer’s needs and expectations. Conducts the research necessary to obtain the specific market facts and helps make the final determination on which ideas to pursue.
  • Creates realistic Return on Investment analysis to financially justify proposed development programs. Develops effective sales strategies to attain the most profitable market share levels.
  • Establishes realistic time schedules with Manufacturing for completion of the various parts of the approved programs, then tracks and publishes schedules on a regular basis.
  • Develops a detailed and time-integrated plan for introducing and marketing the products. Works with Marketing Managers to develop in-season product promotions for new and existing products. Reports the success or failure of development programs that are brought to market.
  • Calls on customers to obtain market data and to support the knowledge and ability of the sales team as it pertains to the product line. Prepares long-term sales forecasts in units and dollars for the product line.
  • Determines strategic product line decisions by evaluating competitor’s products, market share and market trends, and informs others by maintaining and distributing competitive comparisons and evaluations.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Marketing, develops standard and published pricing structure for the product line and is responsible for developing prices on specific negotiations.
  • Provides source data for all communications pieces pertaining to the product line. Writes instructional materials such as owner's manuals and technical bulletins. Reviews and approves all communication pieces for technical accuracy.
  • Participates and provides technical support in tradeshows throughout the year.

Education/Training Required and Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or related field, or a combination of education and relevant work experience.

Experience Required and Preferred:

  • Minimum five years of experience in Product Management, Brand Management, or Marketing Management.

  • Advanced knowledge of project management.
  • Ability to conduct research related to product category.
  • Strong mechanical and technical skills.
  • Ability to perform cost analysis and budget management.
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making, time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills to interact with members across the organization.
  • Excellent computer knowledge, including strong proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally. Must have or be able to obtain a valid passport.
  • Industry-specific experience and certifications is preferred.
