POSITION DETAILS

Position: Director of Alumni Relations

Location: Hunter College, New York City

Overview:

Hunter College is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as the Director of Alumni Relations. Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement, the Director will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to engage and steward Hunter College alumni. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in fostering lifelong connections between alumni and the college, while also supporting fundraising efforts and enhancing the overall reputation of Hunter College.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Alumni Engagement Strategy:

- Develop and execute a strategic plan to engage alumni, including outreach initiatives, events, and communication strategies.

- Cultivate a strong sense of community among alumni, encouraging involvement in college activities and initiatives.

- Utilize various platforms, including social media, newsletters, and alumni networks, to effectively communicate with alumni and keep them informed about college developments and opportunities for engagement.

2. Alumni Events and Programs:

- Plan and oversee a diverse range of alumni events, including reunions, networking receptions, career development workshops, and volunteer opportunities.

- Collaborate with academic departments, student organizations, and other college units to develop meaningful programming that aligns with the interests and needs of alumni.

- Evaluate the effectiveness of events and programs through feedback mechanisms and data analysis, making adjustments as necessary to enhance alumni participation and satisfaction.

- Participate in the CUNY budget process and help manage operating budgets to enhance the engagement of alumni.

3. Volunteer Management:

- Recruit, train, and manage alumni volunteers to support various initiatives, such as admissions outreach, mentoring programs, internship opportunities, and fundraising campaigns.

- Provide ongoing support and recognition to alumni volunteers, ensuring they feel valued and motivated to contribute to the college community.

- Foster a culture of volunteerism among alumni, highlighting the importance of giving back to Hunter College through time, talent, and resources.

4. Fundraising Support:

- Collaborate closely with the Advancement team to integrate alumni relations efforts with fundraising initiatives.

- Identify opportunities to engage alumni in philanthropic activities, including annual giving, major gifts, and planned giving.

- Assist in the cultivation and stewardship of key alumni donors, building relationships that lead to increased financial support for Hunter College.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in alumni relations, fundraising, or related fields, preferably in higher education.

- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful alumni engagement strategies.

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively engage diverse audiences.

- Strong leadership and management abilities, with experience supervising staff and volunteers.

- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

- Willingness and ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel.

- Represent Hunter at events and constituent gatherings, as appropriate.

- Experience with database management and familiarity with CRM systems; Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.

- Knowledge of best practices in fundraising and donor stewardship.

- Passion for higher education and a commitment to promoting the mission and values of Hunter College.

- Perform related duties as assigned.

The Director of Alumni Relations will play a vital role in advancing Hunter College's mission and strengthening its community of alumni supporters. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a strategic leader to make a meaningful impact on the college's alumni relations efforts and contribute to its continued success.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$150,000-$200,000 salary
