Competently direct the operation of emergency and non-emergency services at scenes; demonstrate thorough knowledge of EMS practices and procedures; exercise responsibility for department equipment; efficiently plan and direct the use of personnel and equipment; effectively execute duties related to the handling of special projects; effectively monitor subordinate training; present quality training drills; effectively perform patient care at the paramedic level; maintain positive working relationships with superiors and subordinates; possess thorough knowledge of departmental procedures; interact positively with both career and volunteer emergency services personnel; demonstrate understanding of performance standards and capably evaluate employees’ performance; efficiently utilize available resources, including other agencies; clearly communicate performance expectations and maintain discipline and control among assigned personnel; competently enact disciplinary procedures; effectively and clearly communicate both verbally and in writing; and work effectively under pressure of stress of emergency situations. |
Minimum Qualifications |
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent. Minimum of four (4) years of experience in the field of EMS of which two (2) most recent years must be at the Paramedic level. Minimum two (1) year of documented teaching/instruction experience. Nevada or National Registry EMT-P certification; current ACLS Instructor certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months); current PALS Instructor certification (or ability to obtain within 6 mos); Nevada Instructor endorsement (or ability to obtain 6 mos). Completion of a BTLS, ITLS or PHTLS program. Must be eligible to function as an emergency medical vehicle operator in accordance with Nevada laws. |
Preferred Qualifications |
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Pre- hospital experience in a combination service; experience working with volunteers; thorough knowledge of EMS system principles, regulations, administration and ethics; knowledge of human resources administration principles and practices; knowledge of educational design and principles; thorough knowledge of departmental policies and procedures; experience in program management; knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office applications; and strong communications skills. |
Special Requirements |
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or County-wide emergencies. Must be able to work rotating shifts (days/evenings/midnights) including holidays and weekends and be available to work overtime when required to meet operational needs. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including drug screening. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination. |
