Humane Society of Boulder Valley is Hiring a Remote Accounting and Administration Support Specialist

The Opportunity: Accounting and Payroll Specialist
The Humane Society of Boulder Valley (HSBV) is seeking a full-time Accounting and Payroll Specialist (internal title is Accounting and Administration Support Specialist) to support the accounting functions of the organization, run biweekly payroll, and provide administrative support including managing office supplies and meetings support. The specialist reports directly to the Director of Finance and works closely with the leadership of the various departments.
In early 2024, the accounting department plans to implement a new cloud-based accounting system of record. You may be an excellent candidate for this role if you have experience with QuickBooks Online and accounting software implementation.

Summary of Responsibilities
  • Processes accounts payable, including recording invoices, payment of invoices, and recordkeeping. May also research charges by account, historical payments, and collect actuals for budget preparation.
  • Assists the director with billing and collection of accounts receivable.
  • Processes cash receipts, prepares and makes deposits; maintains and reconciles petty cash.
  • Records bank, credit card and other platform deposits by income source, including program revenues as well as philanthropy revenue sources; assists with general ledger reconciliation.
  • Maintains credit accounts with vendors. Actively seeks opportunities to save money through discounts, credit relationships, and operational efficiencies.
  • Performs monthly sales tax calculation and submission, as well as creates sales tax accounts of new jurisdictions.
  • Processes biweekly payroll through third party payroll processing company software (Paycor). May also support requests from leadership for labor costs, employee absences, and benefit hours.
  • Coordinates supply orders across departments; manages office supplies and inventory.
  • Provides administrative support to senior leadership including compiling the organization’s monthly statistics. preparing board packets and meeting minutes, and drafting employee communications for human resources.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Must have valid CO driver’s license with insurable driving record. Minimum 2 years of accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll experience preferred or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience supporting human resources and/or executives a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent grammatical skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and work with minimal supervision. Excellent interpersonal skills and flexibility when working with people and projects. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Computer proficient in Windows environment including Excel. Exercises good judgment when addressing the public, employee issues, and animal-related concerns. Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Work Environment and Schedule
Work environment is primarily office setting, sitting at a desk, using a telephone and computer regularly. When working onsite, there is regular exposure to animals, potentially subject to animal bites and scratches, zoonotic disease, and cleaning agents. The performance of duties includes frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, and stooping. On occasion, the lifting of up to 25 lbs. with assistance may be required. This role may need to periodically drive on behalf of HSBV.
This position offers a hybrid work environment with a balance between working from home and onsite in the office, sitting at a desk, and using a telephone and computer regularly. Scheduling for working from home is at the manager's discretion and depends on the type of work. The position is scheduled primarily during regular business hours, and, on occasion, work demands may require hours to be worked on weekends, and evenings to support fundraising events, meetings, and training.

The anticipated pay range for this position is $20.00 to $26.00 per hour. This pay range is the Humane Society of Boulder Valley’s best estimate for this role and actual compensation will be based on factors including but not limited to the depth and extent of relevant experience, additional training or certifications for preferred skills, and education.
