JOB SUMMARY:
Human-I-T is a mission-driven provider of ITAD services for businesses and corporations of all sizes. The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all of Human-I-T's warehouse-based electronics reuse activities in Detroit, including logistics, inventory, processing, and shipping.
The Operations Manager will ensure the highest quality of work and maximize the productivity and efficiency of the warehouse using the 5S System and by ensuring that all documented SOPs are complied with. They will plan, direct, and administer all aspects of the warehouse, including procuring, receiving, storing, stocking, and distributing a variety of materials and supplies and ensuring employee safety at all times.
Human-I-T’s warehouse is a NAID AAA-certified for data security, so all employees must pass a third-party background check as a condition of employment. This position reports to the VP of Operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Plan, oversee and participate in the warehouse operations; ensure the accuracy of receiving, identifying, processing, stocking and issuing warehouse stock and materials; analyze shipment logs.
Manage staff, build teams, train employees and monitor production performance.
Meet regularly with warehouse supervisors and other personnel to assess, analyze and develop actionable plans for productivity and goal achievement.
Constantly work to improve processes and make suggestions for productivity improvements. Optimize employee workflow.
Determine and track most important warehouse KPIs.
Process requisitions for supplies and ensure timely delivery. Track inventory levels.
Track expenses related to fuel, storage, and truck maintenance.
Assist in preparing merchandise for delivery; prepare packages for shipping according to established procedures.
Maintain quality and safety standards; assure stock and warehouse facility is maintained in a safe, clean and orderly condition to Human-I-Ts 5S standards.
Lead Safety Committee and identify and lead safety team members. Ensure safety meetings are held regularly and properly documented.
Responsible for providing necessary security within the warehouse.
Communicate with various personnel, vendors and others to provide and receive information, resolve questions and issues, and coordinate activities.
Ensure all items are picked up and delivered according to schedule. Review timeliness of scheduled deliveries.
Maintain a variety of records, files and reports using software and other computer applications; maintain records of stock and order supplies as necessary.
Operate a variety of warehouse equipment and vehicles; utilize a variety of hand tools as required; arrange for the maintenance and repair of warehouse equipment as needed.
Ensure all warehouse personnel using forklifts or other machinery and vehicles are properly trained and licensed.
Train, guide, schedule, evaluate and provide work direction to new and existing warehouse workers; train workers in computer operations and filling, shipping and stocking supplies.
Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
Education:
B.A. or B.S. in Business Administration, Mathematics, Engineering, or related fields
Experience:
4 years of warehouse or logistics experience and previous experience managing warehouse team members
Skills:
Modern warehousing and store-keeping procedures including shipping, receiving and issuing materials, proper and orderly storage, optimum space utilization and stock inventory procedures.
Ability to operate all warehouse equipment.
Familiar with materials, equipment and supplies used in information technology
Computer and email efficiency specifically in Google Suite Applications
Proper lifting and safety techniques. Knowledge of OSHA warehouse requirements and health/safety regulations.
Record-keeping techniques.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Ability to effectively train and provide work direction to others.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (lbs.).
Work Context:
Includes indoors and outdoors; in an office and warehouse setting environment where noise level and temperature may vary; will also be required to work in teams and answer e-mail and the telephone with long periods of sitting and screen time. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This position may include stand, bend, twist, lift and carry goods worth 50 pounds or more. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, and hazards.
